A/N: Double drabble.
Dee dumped another armload of dry, dead branches onto the hard-packed dirt of the clearing, a safe distance from where Ryo was arranging kindling within a circle of rocks.
“Think that’s enough or might we need more?” he asked his lover, studying the fruits of his efforts. He’d gathered a fair-sized pile already, but wood burned fast and while the evening was still quite warm, he knew from past experience how quickly temperatures could drop at night, out here in the middle of nowhere. “Y’know, I think I should probably get a bit more while I can still see what I’m doin’. Better to have too much than too little. Don’t wanna run out in the middle of the night and wake up freezin’ our asses off ‘cause the fire’s gone out.”
Ryo glanced up. “You don’t have to do it all, Dee.”
“I’m not. You set up our camp and the firepit, I gather the firewood; seems fair to me. You’re better at gettin’ fires goin’ than I am.”
“Only because I’ve had more practice than you have.”
“If you say so.” Dee leaned over to kiss his lover. “Just so ya know, you can light my fire anytime.”
