Dee had always considered himself fairly easy-going, able to get along with most people, provided they weren’t complete asshats. He knew his colleagues liked him, even if JJ took the liking to a whole other level that bordered on stalking; he was good at his job, and he worked hard, except maybe when it came to paperwork. If someone came up a bit short, they could count on him for a few bucks, and he always bought a round when it was his turn.
Hell, even the Chief liked him. The yelling didn’t mean anything; he yelled at everyone like that, but he backed all the cops under his command to the hilt.
There was only one person Dee genuinely couldn’t stand the sight of, and that was Commissioner Berkeley Rose, Dee’s personal bête noire. While the initial aversion was mostly because Rose had the hots for Ryo, which was reason enough to loathe everything about the slimy bastard, it wasn’t lost on Dee that the commissioner hated him right back.
Their mutual antipathy was oddly satisfying. They got to glare at each other whenever they met, and Dee was able to gloat, even if only in his head, because Ryo had chosen him over his wealthy and powerful rival, proving that money wasn’t everything.
Unfortunately for Dee, his lover was far too forgiving. Despite Rose’s unwanted advances, Ryo thought of their superior as a friend, and not just Rose but also the slightly less infuriating Sea Hag, FBI Agent Diana Spacey. Dee knew he couldn’t forbid Ryo from seeing them, Ryo was his own man and could be friends with anyone he liked, but it still grated on Dee’s nerves.
“You know I’m not attracted to Berkeley,” Ryo said, catching Dee glaring.
“I know, but I still hate him.”
