“So where’s this then?” Rose asked, wandering across the sand.
“This,” the Doctor waved his arm to encompass their surroundings, “is the great Vallaxian desert!”
“It’s a bit small, isn’t it? I’ve seen more sand at Blackpool.”
“Ah, well, the Vallaxians were only half an inch tall. When an expedition set out to explore, it took them almost three months to cross it. They were lauded as heroes when they finally made it home again, but that was centuries ago. The Vallaxians are gone.”
“What happened to them?”
“When visitors arrived from another world, their spacecraft flattened the whole civilisation.”
