“It was a dark and stormy night,” Xander intoned in suitably sepulchral tones, staring gloomily out the window at the pouring rain. “So much for our fun night out.”
“We could still go to The Bronze,” Willow said, trying and failing to sound bright and cheery. “We’d look like drowned rats by the time we got there, but we could go.”
“If mom was home I’d ask her to drive us, but she’s got that thing at the gallery.” Buffy flopped onto the edge of her bed. “Not much point anyway, there’d hardly be anyone there. Only idiots or people with cars go out on nights like this.”
“At least you don’t have to patrol!” Willow was still trying to put a positive spin on their ruined plans. “I mean, even if vampires don’t mind getting wet, if there’s no one out there to kill they’ll probably stay home too.”
“I guess that’s something. So what’re we gonna do, now I can’t work, and we can’t go out and play?”
“Charades?” Xander ducked as Buffy threw a cushion at him. “It was just an idea.”
“A bad one.” Buffy scowled at her friend. Then the lights went out. “Oh, great.”
