Stepping into the main Hub, Ianto paused, listening.
“No!” said Jack firmly from up in his office. “Drop it!” There were some suspicious sounds, followed by... “Damn it, I said drop it, not chew it!”
Perhaps Ianto shouldn’t have found the situation amusing, but far from being calm and commanding, Jack’s voice had gone up an octave and he sounded on the verge of panic. Sauntering over, Ianto leaned one shoulder against the doorframe.
“Morning. How’s the obedience training going?”
Jack spun around, wide-eyed. “Ianto, thank the gods you’re here! Help me! I’ve been trying to get that rat off him since we got back from our walk three hours ago, but he won’t let it go!”
“You want Herman to drop a rat in the Hub?”
“It’s a dead one, it was dead when he found it,” Jack explained. “If it was alive he would’ve eaten it, and I wouldn’t have let him pick it up in the first place if I’d known what it was!”
Ianto sighed. “I keep telling you taking a dragon for walkies is a bad idea.”
“But he enjoys the exercise!”
“Herman, give!” Ianto commanded.
The dead rat dropped to the floor.
“Good boy.”
