Roses and the Yankees

Well, they lost last night and the score was very un-Colorado-like -- 3-1. I mean, really -- balls go flying out of that stadium at flank speed, and we get a score of 3-1? I have no clue where the Yankee run came from -- the game didn't start until 9pm. which means I fell asleep somewhere around the 4th inning.  Tonight's game starts at the same time, and tomorrow's game starts at 3 (and I have an optometrist's appointment at 4, trying to find out why I can't see through my new glasses. The distance and mid-distance are fine, but I get eyestrain when I try to read -- though the standalone readers are perfect). Friday's game starts at 10 -- which means I'll be lucky to hear the radio pre-game. We're heading out early on Saturday -- it's Bird Paradise day, and the store opens at 9 -- which means we want to leave the house before 7 so we can go to breakfast first.

The roses still have thrips -- the Sevin did a half-hearted job on them. The Orthene should be here today -- I tracked it and it's already in Secaucus. I can't wait to get rid of these things -- it's depressing to look out at the garden and see deformed blooms.

I'm reading a book about rose exhibitors -- it's called Otherwise Normal People, and it's great. It's a hoot to read along and suddenly see the names of people you interact with on rose forums, or have met at shows, or garden centers. Rose exhibiting is a lot like fandom, though there are a lot more men in it.
