We're getting there

Slowly but surely, the house is getting organized. Oh, I'm using a bookcase as a bookcase but I'm also using it as a printer stand -- and I bought a TV stand to use as a stand for my multifunction device and newer laser (bought when I thought the old LaserJet 2100 had died -- but, like Lazarus, it came back to life. That's an 11-year-old workhorse -- it's printed countless zine masters, zine covers, all sorts of material for Eclecticon, plus letters, horse pedigrees, booklists, DVD lists, printouts, PayPal labels -- you name it, that baby has given it to me).

I thought I'd get away with two large bookcases (Wal-Mart, $29.00 each. Say what you want about Wally World -- and I'll no doubt agree with you -- but spending is a big consideration right now, and I got three of those for a little more than I would have paid for one smaller one in Ikea -- without the 90 minute drive), and two small ones, but I realized once the TV stand (bought at Wal-Mart) was placed next to the desk (bought at Wal-Mart), I'd have room for one more tall bookcase. And after I started finagling room in the small hallway between the two spare bedrooms, I realized that if I moved the small DVD cabinet we've had for over 10 years from the the short wall between the bird room and the second bath to the longer wall just opposite (alongside a larger version of itself that's just about as old), the new DVD cabinet (bought at Wal-Mart) could go on the short wall -- and then I could go get two black DVD cabinets and put them on either side of the black TV stand (guess where I bought that, too?), where they give the impression of an entertainment center. And, wonder of wonders, I have empty shelves on a couple of them! But two spots will soon be filled -- JAG 10th season and Emergency 6th season DVDs will be out soon -- YAY! Now if I could get the second half of 4th Season Voyage, but there's no news about that. Come on, Fox -- it's the last flippin' set! Release it, already!

Anyway, there are three large bookcases in the office, one small one in the bird room (next to the desk from -- you guessed it) which holds my Blood Horse stallion registers and my color inkjet. The other small one is still sitting in the garage. It may end up in the dining room, or maybe in the front hallway, though I really want to find a console table for that spot. And I just love putting those 'assembly needed' pieces together. I do most of the work, while I use Bobby for brute force and heavy lifting.

Two of my Sonia Hillios Classic Trek prints are up over the TV in the office. It sits on a diagonal, and the prints bracket it. And my big one, the tribute to Gene Roddenberry with scenes from TOS, is in the hallway over the DVD cabinets. My Basset Hound plate, Arabian horse plate, and snowy owl plate all are hanging, my Yankee 2010 calendar is by my desk in the office, and my Basset Hound calendar is in the bird room over the desk. Pepper (who misses nothing) gave her input while I hung the Arabian plate and the Basset calendar "What's that?" "It's a Basset Hound calendar. See? Doesn't that look like Emily?" To which I received enthusiastic head-bobbing). My Kirk, Spock, and TOS Enterprise plates need hangers (I've cleaned two Wal-Marts out of the correct size), as do my TIE fighter and Millennium Falcon plates, and I need to figure out where to put my ANH, TESB, and ROTJ plates (maybe on top of the bookcases once they're a little more full and stable). My 2001 Yankee plate is in the living room on top of the stereo cabinet, where it belongs.

And I'm on a mission to replace every single switchplate and faceplate in the house. Between Wal-Mart and Lowe's, I just might have it finished by the end of the weekend.

And Spring Training tickets go on sale tomorrow! Wish me luck -- I want to get tickets to at least two games.
