i had to read "crimes against nature" by robert f. kennedy, jr for my environmental law class. i actually just finished it. its mainly about the government and their lack of care for the environment. its one of the most influential books i've ever read. the whole last chapter makes me want to go out there and make a difference. and i love robert f. kennedy. we've been watching a lot of him in my vietnam class and i cried at my desk when we saw the video of his assasination. he could have done a lot for our country.
also. the bottom quote is so incredibly true. also in my vietnam class we're learning about the vietnam war's impact on the united states' culture at the time it was occurring, and all of the anti-war/pro-peace college students were called communists and aides to the north vietnamese. i don't understand it. none of them supported the north vietnamese; they just wanted lbj to stop being irrational and for nixon to stop bombing the hell out of neutral land. but the ignorant assholes in our country (the majority, unfortunately), believed these claims that they were communists and every anti-war protestor (who protested peacefully) was seen as entirely unpatriotic.
oh, not to mention most of them were beaten the hell out of by the police.
i don't mind america, but i just can't stand how anytime a person or a group of people speak against the government for being unethical and immoral are automatiacally deemed "unpatriotic." maybe the administrations who have (and currently ARE) lying to us over and over again are the unpatriotic ones. but that's only if you want to start throwing unnecessary claims around. and most individuals making these claims about those college students actually knew significantly less information about what was really going on overseas than the students did.
hehe sorry. this subject gets me really heated. but i think a lot of the things you and i are learning go hand-in-hand. and i'm glad we can talk about it and agree. thank god we know at least a handful of people who believe in the same things and have the same morals.
i have so much more i wanna say but i'm gonna save it for my final paper. and then you can read it! all 13 pages weeeeeee.
