i had to read "crimes against nature" by robert f. kennedy, jr for my environmental law class. i actually just finished it. its mainly about the government and their lack of care for the environment. its one of the most influential books i've ever read. the whole last chapter makes me want to go out there and make a difference. [law school? good, i need one more thing to keep thinking about] i felt the need to share these words the most:
...franklin roosevelt echoed that sentiment when he warned that 'the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. that, in its essence, is fascism.' while communism is the control of business by government, fascism is the control of government by business. my american heritage dictionary defines fascism as 'a system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership together with belligerent nationalism.' sound familiar?"
-side note: reason five thousand why fdr is the greatest. sunday night 9:00 history channel. i may be a loser but im pumped-
...hitler's sidekick, hermann goering, notes '...[it's easy to get people to rally behind you] all you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. it works the same in any country.'"
if you haven't read it, you should.
