I was reading a fic a while ago, and I came across this line:

"You seemed to be in need of a playmate," the Doctor said, then motioned to Ianto, pleased with himself. "So...wah lah! Ha!"

Oh, the dangers of assuming things are spelled the way they're pronounced.

I may have brainfreezes about how that's spelled sometimes, but I at least know it's not spelled like that! *headdesk*

It took me literally half an hour to figure out what the actual word was meant to be. Plus is the "v" pronounced with as a "w"? Have I been saying it wrong all these years?!

I hear people pronounce it as a "w" a lot, but as far as I know that's not actually how it's pronounced.

Well it's kind of like vw, so the v sound kind of blends into the w sound.
