[Soubi has not slept very much himself, with all of this searching for an escape route. He's woken from a catnap just now, regaining his bearings more slowly than usual due to the absence of his master

[Not far from Soubi crouches L on the floor, looking VERY displeased.]

There is no way to get them off. [He's more concerned with their surroundings: what appears to be a rudimentary medical lab.]

[Soubi looks up at this new person, scrutinizing him carefully. Pale, thin, obviously overtired, but wary. Not someone to trust, but not a threat at the moment.]

Mm. How do you know that?

[He's not convinced you did a good job and is trying to pry it off his wrist]

[Ignoring both of them, Soubi begins to say a spell in a low voice.]

Release. Burn and crumble, harden and brittle and shatter like charred wood. Chains are nothing to one such as I.

[The chains around his wrists seem to glow and form tiny cracks like real wood as Soubi talks, but as the spell ends, instead of shattering apart from the force of power, they simply revert back to their original state.]

[He starts explaining to Touya as Soubi mutters under his breath.]

Twenty-five of the most effective techniques, including using ointment as lubricant to slide the cuff off and mixing chemicals which should dissolve the...

[It's very rare that his train of thought is interrupted, but Soubi managed it with a display of MAGICS.]

[Touya listens to L, nodding as L explaining each attempt. He looks a little surprised by the suddenness of Soubi's attack but he gets over it quickly. He presses L to continue]

[L looks back at Touya and presses on.] Dissolve the chains. Against all scientific logic, it did not work.

[But he doesn't recommend you go near the sink where he dumped the chemicals. You might get burned.]

[And how did he try to dissolve the chemicals? Maybe best not to know...
Perhaps something else will work?]

Did you try melting them, or unforging them somehow?

[L points to a Bunsen burner.] Even the hottest flame did nothing. I was unable to attempt to pry them apart. There were not sufficient tools within my reach.

Perhaps you didn't use hot enough flames.

[Small sigh, and then he speaks half to himself.]

I was hoping not to have to do this...

[Iroh grips the chain dangling from his right wrist with his left hand, and takes a deep breath. As he exhales, the chain under his hand glows red-hot and begins to heat up. Small tendrils of smoke curl from his fingers. Iroh gives the heated chain a yank, a tug, but it doesn't yield, and in seconds the heat is gone.]

[Soubi watches this show with a certain amount of shock. He had been completely unaware of any hint of magic coming from this man, and yet he had used a spell right in front of him. And still there is no feeling of magic. Why should the man bother to cloak himself this well when he doesn't even hide his spells? And more than that, he wasn't using words, just breath... Now this is interesting.]

Can you try that again?

Are you surprised? I am a Firebender, one who can produce and control flame. Though it appears that these chains will not be broken by such means. Still...
[Iroh repeats the process: breathe in, grip, breathe out, fire. Same effect.]

Any other ideas?

[Soubi is honestly completely surprised. He's never seen someone who can use magic like Iroh before. But... maybe that isn't what he should focus on now. He has to get back to Ritsuka, after all.]

Magic and chemicals can't destroy it, oil can't loosen it... Can you bend the metal at all if you heat it enough?

I do not think that will work. These chains won't even hold heat for very long. They are some special kind of metal. [He studies the chain dangling from his wrist for a moment.] Given the nature of this place, they may be irremovable until this author sees fit to remove them...
