[12th Calculation] Getting started. (In Person)

Mar 23, 2011 19:50

[Gene had in his hands a large file full of papers and profiles from people that he has been keeping an eye on or those he could keep up with. Mostly generalized information from what he could gather on the network, the need for a school was definitely at hand. At the very least, a Cultural Education course once a week was certainly something that ( Read more... )

[The Doctor has been spending a good deal of time with Rose and keeping an eye on others- aside from the last two weeks while he was hunting down his sonic screw driver. Now that it was tucked safely in his pocket he was all for a distraction from the TARDIS refusing to work.]

Hmm...

[He's looking over the floor plan and nodding at it-always a good sign. Before turning back to the other.]

I suppose now we'll need to talk about courses to be added and subtracted from a normal school curriculum.

Right so saying that we're going to have the standard courses, Math, Science and Language, I was thinking that for those that were interested an advanced course in linguistics. This is just in case the Author decides to get the bright idea and cause a language barrier just to watch us squirm.

I didn't think of that- well done. Usually- The TARDIS translates everything for me anyway- but in case of a language barrier- it would be a very good idea to have a class- which means we will need to know all the languages everyone here speaks.

Another one I think we should add- Physical Education. It's important to get out in the sun on occasion and studies show the more sunlight a person gets, the happier they generally are.

Good idea. I think it would do everyone some good to get some fresh air once a day. Nothing fancy, maybe some volleyball or baseball would definitely help pass the time. Maybe some gardening too. It's starting to look a little shabby.

Oh, what about a chores list? I've noticed that people have been taking care of their own rooms but only a few have been handling things outside of that. I think Aoko should be in charge of that.

It'd definitely be spotless, that's for sure. But we also can't be assured everyone would do as asked-though this will mostly be volunteer.

Another one we should keep- literature- it'll help with language and the more you read the more your vocabulary increases. -Oh and Health- we should definitely keep health.

We'll ask about that.

[He makes a note on the sheet.]

Health and Literature, check.

[Thinking over necessary classes]

..Perhaps, cooking? I know a lot of people here are magnificent cooks, myself included- but maybe a good idea to teach those that don't know how...

Anything else I've missed?

I think that one should be more of an elective. Cooking is really something that's needed...okay, agreed. What about home economics instead? It covers everything doesn't it?

Yes! Perfect- kill two birds with one stone- or teach.. several subjects in one class, I suppose it would be.

[He writes that down.]

Okay, what we have so far is, Math, Science, Health, Physical Education, Home Economics, Literature and Linguistics, and the Cultural Education class. I think everyone can certainly benefit them. I think that sums it up, unless I missed some.

Everything else would be electoral... so we have a room to use and I think cultural education should be in the evening- maybe eight to ten? Give them all time to get dinner in.

That's logically sound. Okay, so given that there's these subjects, now all that's left is getting the teachers together. The library is ideal for the main courses and the electives are held in their respective locations. So now, do you think that the cultural studies class should be held in the parlor? It seems a more comfortable setting to me.

Yeah, more spacious and more room to sit. As far as teaching goes- I'm good at most everything- and I could probably teach all the subjects- but some will no doubt be at the same time and it would be rather exhausting- keeping that in mind- I can teach science, literature, and physical education. And-Linguistics if need be- but I'll need a day to learn the new languages that come in.

Good. I can take care of the Math. Since this is most likely a classic one room style learning environment, it's easier to teach more than one subject.

[Gene jots down a few notes then taps the eraser to his chin.]

The electives are the ones that require movement from one room to the next. That shouldn't be too hard to work.
