Perfect For The Job

Jan 21, 2016 14:05

I managed to get to Tesco, bought a few essentials and a few less-than-essentials heh. I then napped for a few hours to recover from it. I was exhausted, dripping in sweat and coughing like death. Ugh. But I have cherry Pepsi Max and Jaffa Cakes so I call it a win overall.

I've now had... and I feel really gross for eating it but I had a Pot Noodle. Eh, it was food, it was filling and it didn't involve me actually doing anything and that was kind of the important thing.

Now, sitting on my couch and I've picked up that 642 Things To Write About: Young Writer's Edition that
charlies_dragon bought me for Christmas. Prompt 2 says An old couple stops you in the street and says you'd be perfect for the job...'

First reaction is who is the couple and what job is it?

But then I think, oh hey this is a book for kids so what exactly for them would qualify as 'old'. Because I'm in my 30s which I remember thinking like 20 years ago was practically ancient. To me, old is OAPs, 70s+

And then I wonder of the definition of 'couple', like are we talking two people who are married or in a relationship, or are we just two people who happen to know each other and are walking along together. Two of anything is 'a couple', regardless of whether we're talking people or apples or cushions.

I'm fairly sure though, based on context, that the prompt is referring to an old married couple. At least that's how I'm reading it. I'm also aware that at this point I'm over-thinking shit.

When I was a kid, especially if we were still living in the village I grew up in where everyone knew each other, it would have been someone who knew my dad and had already spoken to him and they wanted me to walk their dog or wash their car or help with weeding or something in exchange for a pound or two.

These days, of course, anyone stopping a kid in the street would automatically be suspected for pedophilia or some such, regardless of intent.

I then frown at myself because I don't want to get too serious or political answering these things because damnit this journal is about FUN!

So, I poke Bob! to see if he has any suggestions. And he starts chattering about Jack and Daniel both being switches but both preferring to top and them deciding they need a third and along comes Cameron Mitchell and yes, he'll do nicely! *grins*
