30 Days of Fic Writing: Day 2

Aug 05, 2014 21:06

2. Name the fandoms you’ve written in, and how much you’ve written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.

This is EXTENSIVE, so I'm going to do three categories, under the cut:

Old Monogomy
Sunset Beach [2000 - 2003]
Colin Farrell RPF [2003 - 2004]
Prison Break / Prison Break RPF [2006 - 2009]

In the early days I wrote long term for only one fandom. I don't write for any of them anymore and much of the fic is gone, the places of original posting having disappeared from the interwebs. I also took a two year break after a friend from the Colin Farrell Fandom passed away, but got back into fic the same way I originally got into it: I read GREAT fic in the Prison Break fandom that inspired me to start.

Minor Dabbling
These are the fandoms that I've written less than 10 stories for that were just inspired in the moment, but were simply passing fancies or asked-for by friends.

The Black Donnellys
The Breakfast Club (film)
Burn Notice
Dear Frankie (film)
ER
The Good Wife [THIS ONE COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SERIOUS, BUT THEY KILLED HALF MY SHIP!!! NEVER FORGET!!!]
LOST
The Mentalist
NCIS
The New World (film)
Suits
Twilight Series (book)
Veronica Mars
Young Americans

Present Day True Loves

Glee / Glee RPF -- This was a brief, but DEEP love affair. I stopped watching the show after the second season, and I doubt I'd ever write for it again, but it has several of my most favorite things that I've ever written.

The Vampire Diaries / The Vampire Diaries RPF -- This may be my One True Love fandom, meaning that I'll never love this way again. I do think I'm pretty much done writing in this fandom now, just because I've written it SO MUCH, but who knows, maybe S6 will create new plot bunnies. I've always wanted to explore Human!Damon, so if he becomes canon, I may return to my former love.

And, a special note about the RPF here -- I've written LOTS of RPF, even though I know it's creepy, and I had sworn it off when NIan hit. As much as Damon and Elena took me by storm with their angst and dark deliciousness, Nina and Ian were my fluff fix. When I needed to feel good, I wrote them. So when they broke up, my heart was OBLITERATED. And that made me positive I will never write RPF again, no matter how tempting. It's the only way to keep my crazy in check!

The Walking Dead -- This fandom surprised me. Up until February of this year (and the fourth season of this show), I had written one minor ficlet, so I would have categorized it as a "Minor Dabbling" fandom. But in February I fell for Beth and Daryl, who came out of nowhere on the show to steal my heart and mind, and the fics I've written (and am currently writing) for them have been so fun for me. My worry with them is that it could end at any moment; people die on TWD ALL THE TIME, so it's hard to be ship-invested. Season 5 starts in October, and I'll be watching VERY nervously. It could end up being a long-term, loving relationship, or it could be cut down in its prime. Hard to tell.

Arrow -- THIS SHOW. This show. Man, what to even say about it, where to even start. A friend asked me a while back if I thought Olicity could surpass Delena in my heart for OTP of OTPs...and my real answer was "we'll have to wait and see" and given the spoilers we got at comic-con, I have to say the potential is there. But at this juncture I have FOUR Arrow stories and 79 TVD, so check back with me in a year or two! ;-)
