I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS. LIKE, SERIOUSLY. Kudos to you on actually getting your thoughts together, because I have been an incoherent ball of flail and nothing else. SUCH IS LIFE. EVERYTHING WAS SO PERFECT. Like, I think the critics who are looking at the whole mystery angle and stuff are just missing the point. This is technically a movie for the fans; with the callbacks the details etc., it's all beautiful and outsiders might enjoy it on a general level, but there is no way that they'll get the deep visceral attachment of a vmars fan. This movie wasn't ABOUT being the BEST MYSTERY STORY EVAH, it was about the wait and the wait finally ending and everything being glorious.
And that car scene, beautiful. I can't remember the last time I saw something so gorgeous and wordless, where you can guess at everyone's feelings but it's still a little bit of a mystery, and the expressions on their faces, VERONICA SMILING because she wants to take that step but it's not the right time and she doesn't think she can. IT'S SO GOOD, ALL OF IT.
ALSO, CANDY YOU NEED TO SEE THIS FOR A 'SPLOSION FOR FEELS OKAY. THE CALLBACKS, THE CALLBACKS ARE SO GOOD.
Oh, ZOE! It is just so much perfection that I had to go through it all with a fine-toothed comb. I couldn't just give thoughts and impressions, I've had to wait until I could sit down and re-watch in these small increments and value every single thing about it. Watching it for the first time in the theater was great because I got to have all the surprise and excitement and anxiety of it, but the re-watch lets me feel that and then go further into all the things that cause the feelings. It has been such a cathartic experience, this Veronica Mars movie, I must say.
Thanks for linking that vid--I've read tons of stuff about various callbacks (and of course the scene when they get back together in S3, so reminiscent of what happened in the film), but this is great. All right here for me to dissect more! LOL.
The car scene is such a foreplay scene...just wonderful, and with pay off, thank goodness!
