Katherine Pierce is THE VILLAIN, and she always has been...
I'm having a moment of ranting blather that's directed at nobody in particular, it's just something I want to get off my chest before tomorrow's episode of The Vampire Diaries.
So, look, I was dazed and confused for the first like eight episodes of this season. I have always hated Katherine, ALWAYS. As a Damon stan, I just can't help but hate every part of her that has always, always, ALWAYS inflicted so much pain upon him. I know he would probably chew my head off for feeling so overprotective of him, but WHATEVER. I love him, he's my fave, and she has, time and time again, just done things to hurt him.
When this season began, and Katherine was so freaking awesome as a poor little human girl, I found myself not just loving to hate her, but kind of loving to love her. I mean, I chalk it up to Nina Dobrev being the goddess that she is, but let's be real, human Katherine was really, really interesting. And in the first couple of episodes, I actually thought we were going to get some Damon/Katherine stuff (not shippy, just perhaps resolving some past things with them) but it didn't go that way. Then there was the big reveal of the doppelgangers loving each other mindlessly and being drawn to each other, and I thought about all that behind the scenes stuff from S2 when all Nina had to work with was that KATHERINE LOVES STEFAN NO EXPLANATION NECESSARY KTHX BYE. It finally added up and even though Elena proves that theory wrong, maybe Katherine is more susceptible to it because Stefan was HER doppelganger? Maybe Elena won't actually ever meet her own doppelganger since Stefan's bloodline has ended? Who the hell cares, I suppose, right? What matters is that some of Katherine's actions are decipherable now. On some level. She loves Stefan. (She also loved Elijah, and I believed that, too, as much as Katherine can love anyone.)
But seriously, what is it that causes her to be so cruel to Damon? I mean, up until he fed her to Silas, he pretty much soft-handed her on everything she'd ever done, including putting her in the tomb so she was the safest psychotic bitch in town instead of killing her back in S2.
If I thought any of Katherine's actions were "revenge" on Damon for being a shithead to her, I might even have more sympathy for her (I'd still be on Damon's side, of course, but I wouldn't just hate Katherine, which is what I do, especially after seeing the Canadian promo for tomorrow's new episode). She's just so inexplicably mean to him, and always has been. I won't even get into the whole 'he loved her better than Stefan ever would or could' stuff because that could go on for days.
What I wanted to point out is this: Katherine is the villain. She has always been the villain. All through S1, she was the mysterious dead girlfriend, but in 1x22 she was set up to be the Big Bad, and she delivered, again and again, over and over. And every time we think awww, maybe she's not so bad, maybe she can be redeemed, she reminds us all over again that NO, SHE'S THE VILLAIN.
So here's what I'm hoping will happen: I really hope that this time, the writers/producers/suits/whomever has the final say over there WILL FINALLY KILL THE FUCKING VILLAIN. I know that TVD is official for S6, but I'm ready for Katherine to be dead; as much as I've loved her this season, as enjoyable a villain as she has been, as delightful as Nina is playing her, I'm ready for her to be gone. And I'd like it to be this season, not next. I'd like it be STEFAN KILLING KATHERINE FOR DAMON because that would just be so poetic, and I want her to feel it, and know it, and GET IT. Not only does Stefan NOT love her anymore, if he ever really loved her at all, but he has always loved his brother the most, above everyone, INCLUDING ELENA.
If this is truly the love story of TWO BROTHERS, and Katerina Petrova is the one who tore them apart and Elena Gilbert is the one who brought them back together, then it is time for a Salvatore to kill Katherine to avenge both brothers as well as bring Elena back.
That's all. That's all I want.
