[+] So, when Phillip Phillips (TLDR; dumbest name ever, poor guy) won AI last year, I liked him okay, and I had downloaded some of his performances. I thought "Home" was easily the best single AI ever concocted for their winner; it wasn't overwrought like every single one before it, and it fit him quite well. But his new song, "Gone, Gone, Gone," ( Read more... )

I miss the interactions/conversations on LJ as well. My tumblr is used mostly to reblog pretty pretty gifsets mostly of Ian, a lot of Nina but mostly Damon/Elena with some Steroline, and I try to stay out of the big debates and metas. To me, tumblr seems incredibly divisive, mostly because the system makes it difficult to carry on a conversation or debate points. People seem to have grouped into camps, and fuck you if you don't agree with everything they say - especially lately, when Elena is at odds with everyone. For instance, after the stills of 4x21 came out that feature the Salvatores torturing Elena, almost half of the people I follow posted and reblogged about how they better not see anyone justify Elena being tortured or even making excuses about it or they'd be instantly unfollowed. The other half was like, buh? There's very little debate and a whole lot of posts about opinions stated in a way that if you don't agree, then you're a misogynistic asshole who isn't watching the show correctly. Like, I think everyone should enjoy the show the way they want to enjoy it, ship what you want to ship, hate what you want to hate, right up until you tell me or imply that the way I enjoy is wrong, or that shipping is stupid. *shrug* So I reblog the pretty, because the format doesn't lend itself to any real kind of discussion.

I'm also really truly loving the show right now! There are of course some areas I think are lacking, like the movement on the Silas front, but for the most part I'm really digging this season. And it does seem like that's not really the case among most fans, which is kind of baffling to me. But I think it's one of the better seasons, actually, and like you said, after what happened at points in season three, I'm not going to be run off by anything it seems. I wish more people loved the show still, and I know the sire bond was hard for people to swallow but it's such a good, interesting and difficult story. Who knows.

OH GOD. See, this is good info to have--I couldn't emotionally handle tumblr, I think. Because as much as I love Elena, I would point out that she was around for the Stefan!torture. She enabled it. That doesn't make her *deserving* of it, but it hardly makes her an innocent victim. NO BLACK OR WHITE PEOPLE, THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. Ugh.

Moving on...

I'm not sure what the deal is with why everyone hates this season more than last--maybe because they actually thought Damon and Elena would get together and it would just be happy, happy, joy, joy after that? I don't know. I never thought that, so the torture and angst has been just fine by me, because regardless, I know Elena loves Damon. That's the one thing I'm certain of!

Oh, SBG. There's a couple things: one, I intended the Klaus/Stefan storyline to carry out more *on-screen* but then Elena went to college, and it just got so much more interesting in North Carolina that I sort of lost control of it, and there wasn't time to show the Klaus/Stefan stuff if I was going to finish the story by the deadline. So that's why all of that is *off-camera.* Two, sometimes I felt like the sex scenes were a little gratuitous, until I realized that every significant emotional moment for Elena happened in those scenes. Each time, she was showing Damon something, because he's not so good with the words, so she would give it to him in his language. I mean, there might have been room for the Klaus/Stefan stuff if they weren't having so much sex, but it just had to go the way it did. :D

LOL I love Elena too, but second to Damon, because he's the character I connected to and understand the most. On tumblr, this translates to caring about male characters more than female characters, it seems? I don't know. But about Elena's upcoming torture, I thought that, too, that not only was she around for Stefan's torture, she stalled Bonnie from sending the dangerous ghosts back so that Lexi could continue to teach her the best method to breaking Stefan! But there was no debating it, the message was spread immediately that Torturing Elena Is Wrong. Which, of course it is? Except these are vampires, and everyone's been tortured across the board, every single character except Matt, I believe. I don't know. It sounds as if I'm bashing Elena stans, but wow are the hardcore Damon stans just as bad. It's all 'but what about poor Damon, who will think of Damon? I'll never get over 3x14-3x22, NEVER!!" Also, this is just my perception of tumblr, and a lot of the time it's pretty pictures and spoilers and ENDLESS FREAKING SPECULATION OH WOW.

I agree about this season, it's been pretty stellar as far as I'm concerned. Of course I'm sad for Elena, and Damon, and ache for what she's lost and his overwhelming insecurities, but that's the story and the journey. And I'm even liking Stefan more this season, especially when he interacts with Caroline.

SBG 1: You were right to go with more North Caroline than Stefan/Klaus, because it was really interesting! And I could absolutely picture her there. 2. I never felt they were gratuitous, because of the exact reason you said, that Elena was able to communicate her feelings for and with Damon. And I'll take DE sexytimes over Stefan/Klaus any day of the week. ;p

Oh, poor pathetic picked upon Damon. I always think of Marta saying that Damon would be so offended by all the people sticking up for him. >_<

Stefan is so much more interesting when he's away from Elena, I know. We've talked about it before, but it bears repeating! It's so true.

I like that the choices I was forced to make on that story actually made it something much more than I first envisioned. And D/E fans obviously love it because of that. :D
