On how Elena Gilbert has to go dark and why as a Damon/Elena shipper, I'm more than okay with that!

Not the most eloquent of titles, but the most accurate. First of all, let me say this post is mostly inspired by the lovely lit_chick08, whom I may or may not quote profusely. [Meg, I didn't ask permission, but I hope it's okay to use some of your post regarding this subject]. Second of all, TVD fandom, I love you, and I just want us all to get along, but ( Read more... )

I don't know if you read my follow-up post, but I basically spent the majority of it defending Elena. Because everything she did was totally in character (some of it incredibly stupid, but still in character), and I do feel better about everything that happened overall. Where I think that the show messed up big-time (in terms of Damon/Elena fans, and Damon-fans who seem the most upset) is in not having a genuine, awesome D/E moment in the episode that fans could at least have to hold onto. After three weeks of barely (if any) interaction to get nothing before the ship was temporarily gutted was NOT a good call, I don't think. Having a moment/minute of awesone Damon/Elena-ness would have gone a looooooooooooong way of easing us into this upcoming set of episodes, but they didn't do that and so people just went into uber-arggh! mode. Even people like me who adore this show like whoah ( ... )

Elena seems to get hated on regardless of what she does D: I agree with everything, I mean, I LOVED her in the episode and I thought it was absolutely wonderful for her character arc that she was 'going there', and that she survives not only because of, but also despite the Salvatores! It was a really good episode for her <3

IKR? I mean, nobody loves Damon more than me, but I don't love him in the way that I think he's always right, or that he's not TOTALLY FLAWED, because DUH. And I've really begun to see so much unwarranted Elena hate lately, it sort of hurts my heart. So I had to take up for her.

Excellent analysis. I think you perfectly captured Elena's journey with her moving closer into the gray-zone. I agree that Damon has gotten as "good" as he should without becoming a toothless character. It is now Elena's turn to become worthy of him and someone that matches up to him in all ways, including morally.

Me, too. I don't want to lose everything I love about him, so this is just where I want him.

I actually thought the ep was a logical progression of the development so far. I can understand why a lot of people have a problem with it but we like conflict, and drama, and angst, we are watching this show, right? So I am excited to see how they work this out and I am glad Elena was confident to make her decision and sticking by them and owning them. I liked her a lot and yeah, some of this will bite her in the ass but still, liking it a lot.

Yes, there needs to be consequences for her actions (and she needs to know the consequences of hurting Damon that way), and I'm with you, I'm so excited to see what will happen.

I really like that icon; very good OT3! :D
