My gf rang me on the way to work and informed me that someone's slashed two of her tyres. She's checked and four cars in our road have been done, so I suppose we shouldn't take it personally. It's a pisser as it's the second time this year it's happened to us and our next-door neighbours - probably worse for them as they only bought their car last weekend.
The guy across the road says that a few years back someone on the road had a run-in with some kids on the estate near us and they later smashed his car in, but the tyre thing seems more random. From personal experience, the kids on said estate are generally sweet, but guess it only takes one or two to ruin it for everyone else, huh. Plus of course the "slashers" could be adults and from somewhere else.
So, we now have the nightmare worry of our road going daaahnhill, etc. We love our street, and don't want stuff like this to cause a mass exodus of our lovely neighbours, many of whom have been there for years and have kids at the local schools. Hey, to be honest apart from this instance I've never had any hassle while I've lived in this area. In fact, the places where I've had trouble on the streets were while living in a nice middle-class bit of north London and when visiting some friends in Wimbledon, so I'm not ready to diss my manor just yet. Hopefully.
