You know, if I knew nothing about you but this rant, I don't think I'd be thrilled to have you join my game. You're not exactly putting your best foot forward. (Full disclaimer - I don't know anything about you but this and the pink dragon incident. I've never played at a game with you, I've never played at any game where you've ever been.)

To address your points, some Pern games have been cliquey for decades. Good ones aren't. Nothing has changed. Plus, no one can ever agree on what 'cliquey and playing favorites' looks like. I find frequently that people who complain about it really mean 'someone else got what I wanted and it's not fair because I wanted it'. Not always, but frequently. I also conclude that anyone who goes 'back in the [x] days, it wasn't like this' is either incredibly naive, disingenuous or the object of favoritism themselves.

Second, you are coming off as a shiny-hunter. 'I don't like greens they've been ruined for me' would say to me as an admin 'I want special dragons and I'll pout if I don't get it'. (Or it says 'I have no imagination, so everyone has to cater to me' but that's not a particularly flattering thing either.) And claiming that you're getting 'left overs' really sounds like 'I want a gold/special dragon'.

Of course, I run a canon game, so lots of people get greens. I would never let someone have a gold if they couldn't/wouldn't play greens and blues too. But then, I'm one of those admins who judges people based 'on their loyalty to the site and how active they were'.

In conclusion, you're presenting yourself as a brat. I normally welcome everyone, but I'll be honest - I have a very low tolerance for whineyness and if you pulled this at my Weyr, you'd be told that you are free to leave at any time. And don't complain if people judge you for you preferences. They do have that right, just as you have the right to complain, and if this is the way you present yourself, then you're opening yourself up to that judgment.

I'm flattered. I've never made anybody love me even a little this way. I will send you a message with details.

I just....yes. Logic! Sanity! What's not to love? This player is so much fail I have no words. Well, actually I have a bunch of words but none of them are nice ones. You were WAY nicer than I could have been, lol.

I took out some of the less kind things. (I'm used to being the mean admin, but I've been the only admin for a while, so I had to learn to be not quite as harsh.) I had a few other words too. And truly, if she were actually in my game, there would probably have been some other comments. I just don't have the time or patience any more for bad behavior.

Hm, I've been looking into joining a canon Pern board - is it strict about gender/sexuality, or not? I find the whole 'masculine lesbians' thing (and the other gross examples of not understanding human sexuality that isn't heterosexual) really offensive and I don't think I'd like to play in a board that maintains that aspect of canon. I mean, I'd understand one that does, because it is canon and fair enough, but yeah.

EDIT: For the record, I'm like the anti-shiny-hunter. I like blues.

I don't consider sexuality rules canon. There's zero textual support for them, they're just a 'because Anne said so'. And Anne said dragons were measured in meters because she didn't know there was a difference between feet and meters. So I take 'because Anne said so's with a large grain of salt. And that one is... *shudder*. Besides, I started playing Pern before those rules were ever put in place, so they've never felt right to me.

Which is a long way to say that, no, there are no sexuality rules. I do go with bronzes Impress males only, and golds Impress females only, but that's as far as I go. Female brownriders are uncommon, but definitely present and female blueriders make up probably about a third of all blueriders.

Now, I have to say, it's not a forum. This is a pbem. But that doesn't make a difference to us welcoming you. We love new people.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a pbem?

And that's good. The bronze/gold impressing never seemed like a bad thing to me, it makes sense and is balanced. The character I'd probably play is an ace male, which the author didn't even specify because nobody's asexual amirite.

play-by-email

Asexuals don't get sexytimes, so why would anyone want them? (I hope the sarcasm there comes through clearly.)

It does, no worries. I mean, if he were with someone, he's not repulsed. He'd probably have sex with them if they wanted to, as some asexuals do. He just has no immediate desire and would only do it to please someone who /isn't/ asexual. But I don't think he's the romantic sort, I mean, he has a friend that has a serious bromance going on, but... anyway I'm rambling.

Roleplaying sex bores me. Am I weird?

And I googled it just after I asked, stupid me. Sounds interesting, though I can't say I can imagine the logistics too easily.

He sounds interesting.

I don't care to roleplay sex either. The game has a strict fade-to-black. I like romance, and I have no problems with characters in sexual relationships, but I don't want to read the details.

The way we do it (which is not universal) is that all rps are open and an rp covers a unit of time, rather than a specific location. Like, we have a thread going on now that is taking place on a particularly hot afternoon. Part of it is in the creche, a part's in the infirmary, a part's at the lake, but it's all taking place at the same time. And people just jump in wherever they feel like, and we all run with it.

Then, just to complicate matters, we also publish a quarterly zine where we put stories we've written - things that happen in private or develop further on things that happen in rps.

It's hard to explain, but I think it makes more sense if you see it happening.

Agreed, and there are some people who /really/ don't want to. I mean, you could email someone privately if you really want to, nothing to stop you.

Actually that sounds pretty awesome. What level of activity would I need to maintain?

I don't have any activity requirements except for goldriders. (I have this horrible idea that having the highest ranking characters means those people have to participate lots.) The game can move very quickly, but I don't expect everyone to be posting fiends. You go at what pace you go at, and people tend to be very respectful of that. I just ask that everyone be courteous.

And if I don't hear from someone for like six months, I tend to assume they've left.

Ehhh, I can see the logic, since they run the place or are otherwise important - having AWOL lynchpins would defeat the object. Could you message me some info about joining, then, and where to catch up on the info/characters/specifics of the rules? I think I'd like to join, if you don't mind.

I ask because though I'm student scum and don't go back to Uni until late September, I will have a high workload when I do and as such, don't want to join and then have to leave due to posting less frequently.
