know what my favorite IM to receive from an RP partner is?
"I'm bored."
Now, it may be dickish but nothing makes me want to not RP more than someone straight up telling me they are bored as if it's some giant clue. It will not pull from my typing fingers that fabled "Well golly gee, let's whip out our characters and word tango right now to cure it!"
I'm pretty easy going but when I get online and the first things I get from someone are "hi" and "ugh so bored" I am going to say "well fix it." Every time.
If you asked to RP directly I'd be happy to oblige, hell even a "I've got nothing to do right now, are you free to/would you mind an RP?" which may say that you're bored but is much more forward and kinda makes me want to play more. Why? Because it's not a two word statement that I should just JUMP ON to ENTERTAIN THE POOR BORED THINGS.
This has happened to me a few times with different players, and the rainbow of phrases spreads beyond just "I'm Bored". In one particular case I was basically carrying the whole plot... Now I like hardcore plotting, that's why I GM, but if said player never puts any creative effort into the posts they puppy dog at me to play, then it is not a wonder they are bored. In these cases it's pretty much a case of "I'M BORED TELL ME A STORY." I'm in it for creativity from all sides, but I'm kind of going off on a tangent so I'll end it there.
The most horrifying thing is that it works like clockwork. At least once or twice a night those certain someones will tell me of the doldrums in which their mind resides. So steady is this trend that I have this great fear that if the cycle is broken an eldritch abomination will bust on out of my laptop and bust a metaphysical cap in my ass ):
All I ask is that someone... well. Actually asks to RP.
