I...you...WTF?!

You guys are an impartial lot, can you tell me what I did wrong? Cause I can't figure it out. This is a Pern game, and the names have been changed. Lucy is the admin's character, and Eve is mine. There are two others involved here, but as you can see, it was me and the admin that had the difficulty. I haven't received a reply from admin yet, ( Read more... )

Considering the other things this admin is known for, I believe you're right. And this just makes me even more mad. I'm afraid to ask if this is what admin meant, that I had to ask permission to have my character be insulting toward theirs. I fear it because I think I know the answer...

Is she saying that you need to GET PERMISSION from a player before your character insults theirs ICly? Because that's what it's reading like to me. And the bit about "fixing" how she's "been too nice" lately sounds almost like she's threatening to get mean OOCly over something that's just IC.

That's exactly what Admin is saying. That the OP has no right to be posting insults toward Admin's character, because Admin never said it was okay.
And threatening to get mean is also exactly what Admin is doing. Unfortunately for me, I know this admin-person. x_x

Three words: admin ego trip.

It's pretty clear from the posts (thank you for giving us all the data, BTW) that the admin is taking anything insulting said ICly against Lucy as an affront to her in real life. He/she is being petty, self-centered, and threatening. I think your game needs a new admin, stat.

Based on these logs, the character Lucy has bit (or lot) of habit of going on and on in a condescending tone, and adding some "general observations" which I'd think are pretty hard not to take personally when presented like that. It sounds like the player is blissfully unaware of this also, since I assume she didn't get OP's permission to insult Eve either.

If she thinks people have to ask her permission before they insult her character, that's her rule no matter how unusual it is. If you, OP, are going to RP with the admin, you ought to play by the rules.

Personally, most of my characters would find it hard not to mock her back and I'd just avoid RPing with her.

But she did not make that rule clear. The OP was not even aware that they were violating any rules. If you're going to have bizarre powermodding codes of conduct other players must live by, you need to at least state them clearly. You know, so sane people can avoid you.

I get what you're saying, but I see no OP fail here. This is all on the admin. A person like that shouldn't even be running a game.

...control freak ahoy.

Seriously, it's one thing to need permission if there's going to be physical stuff going on that might get other character hurt or incapacitated in some way (fighting, getting imprisoned or tied up, getting slapped, etc), but to have to ask permission for certain ways of thinking and speaking IC? That's beyond...

Yeah. I don't even have words for that one.

Honestly? I'd avoid playing with this person if at all possible. They have both a power/ego trip going and a lack of being able to separate IC from OOC. And if they're admin with a lot of control over the game itself? I'd seriously consider looking for a new game, because that sort of stuff will only get worse over time, especially if no one is keeping them in check.

Sheesh. ::shakes head:: I run across a few folks like this in various chat rooms from time to time. Thankfully, they're not admin or staff. Still, it's frustrating. "Don't do this, you're spoiling things." "Don't do that, it makes things not fun." "Don't do..." "Don't do..." "Don't do..."

I'm with the others. Avoid playing with this person if you can. Life's too short to ruin the fun times with controlling personalities like this person you're describing. People who do this, and do it without censure from other admins (censure from other players won't help as they ignore other players), will continue to do this. Period. Be polite but don't play with them.

Take up crocheting. You'd be surprised how much stress relief you get from undoing all the mistakes you make while crocheting under frustration. ::chuckles:: At the very least, you can turn out some very unique items. ;)
