I GIVE UP.

I seriously effing give up on a good FFVII RP. If I find one, it's dead. The live ones either have plots that ignore canon (example: I just found one that takes place a year after AC, but ignores DoC for no reason other than MOAR SEPHIROTH!!!!!!1!!1!!!1!1!!!111!!!!1!), full of nothing but a fuckton of purple prose, or are horrible and a breeding ( Read more... )

weeabootastic, fail, riding the failboat, mary sue, over 100 comments!, purple prose

I understand your frustration, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with not acknowledging a part of the Compilation that you don't like in RP in favor of something you do. I admit that DoC is canon and part of the story whether I like it or not, but I quite frankly hated it and the characters they introduced in it. Therefore, if I created an FFVII RP, which is to be a happy pretendy fun time for me, I might also be inclined to disregard it as I was typing up a plot and setting. It's just different strokes for different folks in that case. Like I said, I do understand your frustration in not being able to find what you're looking for, though. There are a lot of casts in panfandom games, but I haven't seen a purely FFVII RP in some time.

Then it should be marked as, well, an AU instead of Canon. :/ Because that's what it is.

I, for one, love Rosso the Crimson and Nero the Sable and Weiss the Immaculate. Especially Rosso. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like the psychotic uberbitch with bloodlust. The thing that's WRONG is marking anything that scraps DoC and replaces it with Sephiroth Redux 320927986359694656374856875785 and calling it canon.

Granted, I for one am sick of Seph ALWAYS being the villain. Get some new material. :/

Probably. Or at least specify early on that it's adherent to canon in all ways except for DoC. That way you don't get people going "AU! That means I can make Tifa a hooker har har!" or something.

Like I said, different strokes for different folks. I don't look down on people who liked DoC; I couldn't stand it, but that doesn't put me in a position of moral superiority or anything. At any rate, I understand what you're saying, but I don't think slapping it purely as AU would work either. Because it's adherent to all but one entry in the Compilation. If something could be marked as 'Canon in all ways but DoC!", that would probably be best. XD

But... Isn't that still technically AU? AU doesn't mean purely completely different. :/ *Primarily an AU writer.* Which, while yes, it follows canon TO A POINT AND THEN VEERS OFF... ...It... Still isn't purely canon and shouldn't be marketed as such. It can easily be marked, "AU after this point."

Not to mention how overused Seph is getting. Why is he ALWAYS the goddamn villain?

Technically all RPs are AU. I usually find canon or AU to describe the setting everyone starts out in rather than the actual plot of the RP. Regardless "Canon except for this!" or "AU after this point!" are both fine tags to use instead of leading people on one way or the other.

I like Sephiroth a lot. At least in FFVII and Crisis Core. I do agree it can get a little tiresome when he's always the Big Bad everyone is looking to stop. It really just comes down to personal preference, I suppose. Some people just want to include him so as to make such a popular villain and character available for play.

See. Seph is nice. But, like I said... Another villain, plz? D: I get that Seph is iconic. I love him! ...But... Just... It's all been DONE. There's nothing else to DO. It's the same formula!

Sephiroth tries to destroy the world. Cloud shows up. Cloud and Seph fight. Sephiroth dies.

Actually, there's plenty of other ways to execute that, and a lot of loose threads left to tie, but I'll not expound on that here.

I haven't seen them done, then. Because if people bring back Seph, it seems it's either for teh yaoiz or so... He can do the same exact shit he's already done, with that formula. Rinse and repeat.

And I've never seen a narwhal in real life, so clearly they don't exist.

I never said that, but when a majority of the time the above cycle is what I find? I'm gonna stay away from Seph-is-the-villain-again RPs. :/

I'd rather fight Sephiroth forever than a skittles crew of villains with bad accents or Gackt.

There other ways to use him. Throw some twists in there. I played him (not exceptionally well mind you - it was my first attempt at him) some time ago in a setting where he'd come back for complicated reasons I won't get into but had no memory of who he was at first. Mind you, this was all before the release of AC. Anyway, it's nice to keep him open for people to app, and there are different ways to utilize him. Even if he's a villain, there can be others to keep things less Sephiroth-centric.
