Hermes was on his way own from buying Greece groceries, but then this happened:

Okay, so Saturday is my RP day, it is the one day that my grandma is completely safe and my uncle is home to care for her all day unless something major comes up, a little treat for me since I really miss having time to RP. I was craving God of War and I got a reply, well, look at the obvious title parody of Blue Harvest (Greece groceries ( Read more... )

But...that's so contradictory, she's the goddess of marriage, she can't cheat. he basically willed Hephaestus into existence BECAUSE she wanted her own kid but couldn't cheat on Zeus.'

Is that God of War specific? Because in various myths, she has. Not as much as Zeus, but it depends on which myth you go from. Also depending on which myth, Hephaestus is either their kid, or the kid of Hera and a lover she cheated on Zeus with. So that part confuses me.

That aside, I wonder if this person realized that the vast majority of the gods were horribly incestuous. I mean, complaining about the gore, violence, and sexual orientation, but not minding all these gods sleeping with their brothers and sisters?

Interesting.

The source I read said that Hera couldn't cheat on Zeus, but I'm aware there are other sources, so that could account for me being wrong there. Also, I somehow doubt this person paid much attention to Olympian family trees, he or she was probably too busy reading the steamy bull-on-lady action to know the gods were all interrelated.

I've read a lot of sources [huge Greek myth buff here] One of the versions I know is that Hera got pissed enough as at Zeus for always cheating, and went and had an affair which resulted in Hephaestus's birth. Zeus got angry and flung him out of Olympus which deformed Heph. Another version, as told by Homer, was they he was their son, but his deformity was from birth and that made Zeus reject him. There's another that says yes, Hera sort of willed him into existence, because she was jealous that Zeus had had Athena without her. That last one isn't commonly held as the 'right' version because it contradicts Athena's birth. Hephaestus was the one who split Zeus's head to help her out, so he couldn't have been born after her. Anyway depending on the version of the myth, Zeus and Hera actually had four kids together: Hephaestus, Ares, Hebe, and Eileithyia. Oh you crazy Greeks.

...I'm gonna end my mythology lesson here. I tend to get REALLY. RAMBLY about it.

It's okay, I love Greek mythology. Infact I'm a huge Hermes fantard as well as well Aphrodite, I actually shipped them before I knew it was true in the myths.

It would have been more plausible if he were one of the many kids Zeus fathered. He sleeps with everyone.

Pretty much, but then he wouldn't have been a special snowflake.

Oh sex as plot, I love deranging these setups. This might not work for a Greek god roleplay, but I remember the last time someone suggested this I let them have it only to have my character have severe second thoughts after the act. Like a 'oh shit, who the hell are you? I'm not gay!' type freakout.

That one didn't turn out so well though, she kinda dropped me after I posted the new plot. I felt like a used dildo.

Well, pretty much sex-as-plot usually turns into RP partner=dildo, hence why I prefer plots that revolve around other things.

At frist, I was excited, because I love mythology, and God of War and thought maybe there was an epic RP somewhere...
then I read the post and my heart sank a little more each word.

Yeah...But actually, I'm trying to get one going, it's just no one is ever interested and I need to find a good board to start the RP on.

If you ever do start it, shoot me a link, I'd love to be involved.

Alright, awesome. Like I said, I just need to find a board, then I'll set it up, the only parts immediately taken with be Hermes and Pandora and there will be a two character limit to start probably, I think.
