"No mother, I haven't shown my face to anyone," Penelope replied, keeping her voice quiet as she spoke to her mother.

"I just worry dear. I need to know I made the right decision in sending you there."

"I'm fine. I like it here very much mother, and guess what? I have a job now."

"What? Oh, Penelope, sweetheart, you didn't," her mother whined.

"I did. A lot of the students work here, mother. I believe it creates stability and gives them a sense of self-worth."

Penelope heard her mother sigh. "Where are you working?"

"At the pu-book store," she lied quickly. "It's wonderful, mother. Don't worry. I am being perfectly normal."

"But you're not normal, Penelope. You have your great great great grandfather's face," she cried. "How can that be normal? I'm certain Edward-"

"Yes, I know," she cut her mother off. "But everyone is really nice here and please just let me stay," she asked.

"I didn't plan on bringing you home just yet. I'm happy for you even if I think your place is here at home-"

'We had that conversation, mother, and I need to go now. I have to study. I love you and tell father I love him. Bye."

"Oh Penelope," her mother cried. "Good bye, dear. I'll send more Ho-Ho's!"

Penelope put her phone down and sat on her bed, bringing her hand-held mirror up so she could look at her face. She slowly began to pull the scarf away but her fingers immediately were there, covering her nose. "He's not me, and I'm not him, and I'm not me," she whispered.

[Establishy mainly, but can be open.]
