Rm 332; Saturday Evening

Aug 22, 2009 13:55

With Joan kind enough to lend Penelope the room for the evening, she'd set it up rather nicely for her picnic and movie night with Hurley. There were candles lit in various vantage points, and a comfy blanket with big fluffy pillows neatly arranged on the floor. Dinner was fried chicken, potato salad, fresh dinner rolls, and cherry pie for dessert ( Read more... )

Hurley knocked on the door, a little anxious himself. He had a movie in one hand, and a certain something in his back pocket, as well.

Hugo Reyes was no dummy, even if he was, well, making huge leaps in assumptions.

"It's me," he said.

She stood, hands clasped in front of her, and called out: "Come in, Hurley."

Hurley opened the door with his free hand and stepped in.

"Oh, that looks awesome," he said, seeing the spread that Penelope had put out.

He was also very glad the blankets were taken care of. He wasn't sure why, but it seemed a huge relief.

Then he saw her dress. "Oh, wow. So do you."

He hadn't really dressed up, he was still in just a t-shirt and jeans.

She gave him a sweet smile and looked around again, thinking it did look pretty awesome. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and she was pleased.

With a faint blush, she stepped forward, towards him. "Thank you, for noticing both the room and me. You look just as nice, as you always do." And she leaned up on her toes (without heels, Pen was under five feet) in an effort to try and kiss his cheek.

Hurley leaned down just a smidge so she could kiss his cheek easier.

"Thanks," he said, smiling like a total dope.

"I, uhh, brought a movie. It's one of those that you have to, like, read. Unless you know French."

He was sweet like that. He was sweet in so many ways.

"Oh, French. It's a lovely sound and yes, I'm fairly fluent." In that and several other languages as well.

"Please, make yourself comfortable. We can eat first or eat while watching the movie. Whatever you prefer is fine with me."

Pen made sure the door was locked. Just... because she did.

"During is good," Hurley said. "I'm gonna have to have the words on, though. I'm not, uhhh, so good at French. I think I know... ummm, nothing." He smiled, dorkily.

Penelope laughed. "That's okay. Not everyone knows other languages. My mother made sure I knew at least ten."

Taking the movie, she put it in and then indicated the blanket and pillows. "Let's get comfy?" She carefully sat down, keeping herself in proper position so her dress didn't hike up too far.

There were heavy paper plates, napkin, and utensils placed just by the basket containing their food. "Go ahead, Hurley, help yourself. The meal is simple, but easily labeled as picnic food."

"Dude, fried chicken," Hurley said, sitting down himself. He tucked his legs up. "This is the best date ever."

"Hey, we still have the evening to get through," she teased. "You might not want to say that just yet."

Penelope fixed herself a plate and hit play on the dvd remote.

Hurley grabbed a plate and started dishing stuff out for himself.

"You, uhhh, want me to fix a plate for you, too?"

"I've got it, thanks," she said. "Just help yourself; there is plenty. And cherry pie for dessert."

"Wow, you really went all out," Hurley said, nibbling at the chicken. "You really... thank you."

Penelope stared at Hurley, her features soft and kind. "It wasn't much. I wanted to do something nice for you."

"Well, you totally succeeded and stuff," Hurley said. "I can't think of a nicer picnic."

He set his plate down for a second, so he could reach over and try and give Penelope's hand a gentle squeeze.

He was able and she squeezed his back, smiling at him. "I'm so glad." Cutting her eyes over to the TV for a moment, she added: "Hopefully we'll have more of these nice picnics."
