Dani hadn't sugar-coated anything, so Nick's choice to meet his sister-in-law was well-informed. That didn't make it any easier to face. Really, the only reason he agreed was so she didn't have to go into the trial blindsided. It was easier to try and think about someone else's welfare than his own. He agreed, but he actually changed his mind no less than six times, too-ing and fro-ing between yes and no, and sending Dani into an accidental spin of making times with Leslie and then cancelling them. The woman must think Nick was a mental case, and really, he was on some level. He knew that. He knew there was times where his brain just got into such a confused mess, he couldn't make sense of anything. But he also knew that he had to do this. He had to find the balls to face it, no matter how scared he was.

He still couldn't believe it. The weird part was, Nick never even knew Neil had a sister. He never told him, so that alone had set Nick reeling. He had always been so shielded and quiet with Neil's family if he ever encountered them because he didn't know how to take them, but he never knew there was a sister. Apparently there was, though, and not just that, but she had been a victim too.

He was sitting at Dani's kitchen table, his hands twisted tightly in front of him when he went from being alone to not and looked up to see a completely unfamiliar face looking back at him. Unfamiliar, but not different. She looked like Neil and it had Nick sitting back stiffly in the chair, and lost for words for a few moments. "... hey," he eventually got out, clearing his throat. "I'm... um... I'm Nick."
