It should be obvious, but....

This is going to be the last post I make about Katrina, but I had to say this. Locally, at least, there's been a lot of support...money, food, clothes, etc. But also, there's been an overwhelming cry of "the government isn't helping as much because they're racist!"

Give me a break, people. According to a lot of people, the government, military, etc, the military should have been able to take control right away but doesn't, because they're racist. The people aren't being rescued because they're black. Everything is out of control down there right now....all kinds of people..white,black, asian, hispanic, etc are trapped. The people working their butts off to rescue them aren't judging by race. I actually called in to a local radio station this morning and calmly as I could, stated how some people are just willing to throw the race card out there with the the smallest provocation. My call was followed by a call where the guy identified himself as black, then said "the biggest amount of relief should go to only the black community in new orleans since they got hit the hardest." I don't even know what to say to that.

People around here have said "only the whites are getting loaded onto buses and evacuated" and other ignorant statements.

Really I had meant to put a longer post in about how disgusted I am with the whole attitude. I've dealt with a lot of ignorance before, but this is just amazing. How someone could rationalize the situation not being resolved already due to race is completely beyond me.

I'm done.
