Last night, I received a notice in the mail from Bell Canada stating that I had
not paid my account balance. Furthermore, if I did not pay up by November 15
(yes, less than 24 hours notice), then my phone line would be disconnected, I
would be levied a $55 surcharge to have my line reconnected, and my account
would be turned over to a break-your-legs-style collection agency.
Now, if I had forgotten to pay my bill then I would have no reason to be angry.
However, I had paid my bill four days in advance of the deadline
(paying Nov. 5 for a bill due on Nov. 9), and this notice probably was sent a
day or two after the due date.
Keep in mind that Bell somehow lost my Sympatico registration back in September,
which resulted in me not having internet for an extended period of time (and I
had no recourse against them). However, if I pay my bill on time, they threaten
to cut off my phone service and sic a collections agency on me.
Something seems a bit wrong here.
Update: I called and they have received my payment. It still doesn't make up for the harrassing letter that they sent, though.
