I'm trying to get back in the habit of posting regularly - at the very least, 5 or 6 days a week. Hopefully I will be posting quality and not merely quantity.
I was going to post something that I had drafted yesterday. However, I feel that it needs a bit more development. So, instead, I am continuing with the next installment of my nearly forgotten series: "About My Friends". There are one or more still forthcoming, and hopefully I will get to them soon.
Andrew was in 3B when I was in my 1A term at SPUC. I don't have any recollections of him from that term, beyond just thinking that he was kind of weird.
In 1B, Ryan M. and I hung out off and on, so there were often occasions when Ryan, Julie, and Andrew would get together, and, occasionally, I joined them. I remember one time when we made a garden salad (which contained so much garlic that I could barely swallow the greens) and fresh pizza from scratch. Andrew had an interesting sense of humour - very wry.
Apart from knocking on his window to ask him to let me in when I locked myself out once and talking about
John Rutteronce, I don't have many other recollections of him from that term. I still thought he was weird.
In 2A, Andrew and Amor approached me and asked if I would like to join a male vocal ensemble that they were forming for Blackforest 2004; I agreed, and after a few rehearsals we became known as the SPUC Street Boys. We had a great time rehearsing and performing together as a group, though I didn't really get to know Andrew on a personal level just yet.
It was in choir that term that I got to sit between
lloyd_c and JLee. Since both of them are tone deaf and I have perfect pitch, it was a painful experience for me on some nights. Andrew also had some choice singers that he could hear. Add in the Requiem that we our choir had a lot of difficulty learning, we needed to be a bit more relaxed for choir. Hence, we formed the pre-choir drinking club. :) I only partook in it once or twice, but it definitely helped me through some of the more painful practices.
(During one rehearsal, Andrew left partway to get a drink and came back feeling much more relaxed and much more argumentative.)
In W05 (my fourth co-op term), the SPUC Street Boys (plus Ray and minus Paul) decided to perform at Blackforest 2005. For one of the first rehearsals, Andrew came by a bit early (perhaps the night before?) and we had a chance to talk. Very quickly, we realised that we had a lot more in common than we had known earlier, and we got to talking a fair bit. We often talked before or after each of our Blackforest practices and built our friendship.
After our Blackforest performance, we kept in touch via email and MSN and kept on offering each other advice and talking. In particular, we both have a similar track record of success with women ("I just don't understand
the ladies..."). We also have a few conspiracy theories that we throw around.
One thing that impresses me about Andrew is how much he enjoys church and church music. He really seems to take the importance of church (and finding God in church) to heart. Also, any person who listens to John Rutter music gets a thumbs-up in my books.
Since Blackforest, I have visited him at his luxurious apartment twice, and he has been to Waterloo a handful of times. It's unfortunate that our friendship really got going once we were in different locations, so, sadly, we don't get to see each other that much. However, he is a person on whom I can rely and is a great guy all-round.
