I plan to do a short walking holiday next month with my husband and my 19 month old. Our plan is to walk a length of the Cotswold Way in England, stopping at B&Bs and carrying our luggae with us. We would probably use a combination of SSC (Beco Butterfly 2) and wrap for back carries, and take a camping rucksack for most of our kit, plus a small rucksack to be worn either over the baby, or carried on the front of the wearer. We would probably aim to walk 10-15 miles per day, so fairly easy going and very flexible.
Yesterday we did a 5 mile gentle walk, DD on my back in the didymos double hammock. Today my back ACHES. I don't know if I need to build up my strength, or if I need to adjust my carry. I'm pretty fit but to be honest don't babywear anywhere near as much as I used to now I work full time.
So questions:
1) Back-ache - improve strength, or do I need to do something different? Any recommendations for back carries that are super-supportive? The DH has a chest support but nothing across the stomach. Maybe that would help?
2) Rucksacks worn with baby. I know Ergo etc. have rucksacks that attach to the main carrier. Are there generic ones you can wear over any old back carry? Wearing on front - yay or nay?
3) Weather-proofing. This is England, after all! I'm preparing for rain. I have a babywearing fleece which is super warm and water resistant, but I'd like something to really protect us both if it rains hard. Babywearing mac, or (preferred) individual baby waterproof cover?
4) Wrap recommendations. I own a Didymos which is very thick, and an Ellaroo which is very lightweight. I'd like something longer and lightweight for Summer, but don't want to compromise on support. Would you recommend a Calin Bleu or Storchenweige? Are these as comfortable as the thick, blankety Didymos?
Thanks! :)
