Aizawa Kousaku (Yamashita Tomohisa) left the lifesaving center of Shoyo University Hokubu Hospital, devoting himself as a brain surgeon aiming high to perform operations every day. Shiraishi Megumi (Aragaki Yui), due to the insufficient aide in the Shohoku lifesaving center now is struggling as the leader of the flight doctor staff. Once with them in aiming to be a flight doctor, Hiyama Mihoko (Toda Erika) left Shohoku Hospital and is now an obstetrician and gynecologist in a perinatal care center. Saejima Haruka (Higa Manami) even now continues to be an ace flight nurse. And Fujikawa Kazuo (Asari Yousuke), together with Shiraishi supports Shohoku lifesaving, has become a lifesaving doctor with specialization on orthopedic surgery. Their superior who speaks of their growth Tachibana Keisuke (Shiina Kippei) has elevated his position. He continues to be a lifesaving doctor, but he also takes a strict stand concerning his son at present. The reason for Tachibana’s conflict is what.

INTERVIEW #1 (2017.6.19 MON UPDATE)

Q: What were your thoughts when you knew that there will be a third season of Code Blue?

I felt that my pulse went up for a while. Of course I’ve thought that it’d be good if there’s one more but now that I’m being told we’re doing it, for an instant I felt somewhat a bit of fear… It’s to that extent it’s big for me since it’s a work that I seriously faced and struggled in, it was like I’m once again going into battle mode? Thinking that, the feelings become trembling with excitement so to speak. But, since I have proof I seriously tackled the tension and fears before going in to this work, I think all is good.

Q: Watching the 1st and 2nd season, people who aim to be doctors or emergency lifesaving doctors seem to increase…

If in watching the drama, people who chooses a job which faces someone’s life increases, it’s such a blessing for an actor. And from now on, more and more, I also want this impression to reach everyone in watching the 3rd season since it’s a different generation already from the 1st and 2nd season. I want to make the 3rd season a work that will set up an even higher stage.

Q: If you are to give the 3rd season’s Aizawa a theme, what do you think it will be?

That is a private thought but when you speak of the Aizawa until now, isn’t he a rational type of character? For the 3rdseason’s Aizawa, is there anything futile of him before? Recognizing this, I think one wants to grow as a person. Until the end, I plan to hold on the unseen theme. Of course, the sharpness is still left in Aizawa though… And I think, in being aware of the other side, Aizawa's growth and greatness seem to increase.

Q: What is the passion hidden in Aizawa’s coolness?

Aizawa, in the problems he confronts, if difficult, the more it is difficult, if the wall if high, the higher it is, he exalts. It is essential to step up, as a doctor, even as a human being. I think the Aizawa this time will be able to put out that face with no cover up.

Q: In the vacant time from the 2nd season, how do you fill the gap?

What did Aizawa do in that period? Of course, I for instance need to imagine. That is a major premise but personally, I changed in that time. Since it’s been 7 years when the 2nd season ended, I too have experienced various things. If I just precisely recapture the me in the 1st and 2nd season, it’s not natural not to be able to combine my personal experience to a new Aizawa, isn’t it?

Q: Well then, what influence did Yamashita-san receive from Aizawa until now?

Aizawa’s persistence in doing challenges without giving up and the burning with ambition attitude. I too want to have to those being made to see it in a new light. In me, I think there’s still something from the past but Aizawa was a character who probes into that. Through Aizawa, it feels I have discovered a new self.

Q: Code Blue is also a drama which makes you feel the (relationships of) family and friends

That’s right. I was in my 20’s when I played Aizawa in the 1st and 2ndseason but properly looking at it now, it really provokes the tear glands. As the growth and conflict of doctors and interns are depicted, there’s this patient one at a time in the drama. That is what’s great of this drama so to speak. Just how many dramas are packed in one episode? I think with Code Blue, even after watching you will be firmly left of all the images. In the 3rd season, I personally too would feel the drama one by one, and in playing my part, want to convey this strongly to everyone.

Q: The 3rd season Aizawa will have a lot of junior doctors. What is Yamashita-san’s image of an ideal senior?

A junior’s objective is to be senior isn’t it? I don’t want to be thought of having a way of life that’s uncool. So for that sake, have a stoic living that will make yourself grow. Of course painful things need to be experienced, so one must be tough. With that, without being idle, without running away from painful things, one needs to always give oneself a good shaking.

Q: How was it reuniting with Aragaki Yui, Toda Erika, Higa Manami and Asari Yousuke?

At that moment, it felt I naturally went back to that time. The previous filming was a period of around 8 months and it wasn’t merely time spent because together we thought, together we were frantic getting our grip on the drama. No matter in what condition, more than the same time spent by people, the bond is deep I think. Especially even if there’s no exchange of words, everyone feels engaged.

Q: Lastly, a message for all the viewers.

We the cast, the staff, all have love for this work, we do this with all our effort and strength combined. I am not one to talk big but I think this piece of work is the most amusing medical drama in Japan. And that will surely be viewed in the 3rd season as well.
