house on hill

jon and i went and signed the lease at our new little house today.  we also laid down a huge sum of money.
it was really nice to go there because already some of my new home fears have been appeased.  this house is far away from all of the previous hubs with which i am familiar.  it is north, like norway north.  it also sits atop a hill and is not surrounded by trees as our current house is.  these things combined in my head to give me a totally false feeling of being both stranded, exposed and remote.  upon visiting today it was really nice to make note of the day time sounds of that place.  children playing, no car traffic, winds and bugs and birds.  there was a nice little breeze blowing and the shade tree in the back yard really does it's job nicely!  maggie seemed right at home there and now that we brought her there i am having no problem imagining her living there and being a happy puppy.  really she just loves hanging out with us.
we got permission to plant a couple of shrubs and trees that have been potted for too long and to set up veggie beds.  there is already a perimeter set up all around the house for flower planting and so i can't wait to make pretty!
after we signed the lease we went into downtown st john's and got some foods at the little vegan market and cafe and both realized that all is going to be well.  with a little place that we can get 9 out of 10 "oh shit we are out of......" items including produce, the bread we like and grains, we are both feeling good!
our house is located 1 block from one of the largest parks in portland.  it inlcudes a public pool, which in recent years i have started to become a fan of once again when it is hot hot hot and a river trip seems too long before cooling down.  kids in pools are totally cute, they bring back a slurry of memories as a kid growing up in the pool.  i like kids much better when i am floating in a pool.  also a plus is that there is a river dip spot for maggie within walking distance and one of her favorite river dip spots can now easily be reached by hooking her doggie wagon up to one of our bikes and going for a short ride!
so now, instead of feeling apprehension, i am starting to feel a little bit like this...

we are lucky enough to have the help of a couple of able bodied friends to help us move our stuff in and out of the moving truck tomorrow, that ought to speed things up tremendously.  crazy to think that this is our last night here.  my heart breaks and is excited at the same time.
