I took the baby to the pediatrician today for his little cough that had turned into quite a big cough with some choking included. We got Dr. Shreve this time (whom I love) and he came to the conclusion that Michael has *DUHN DUHN DUUHHHHHHNNNNNN* asthma.
:O << me!
It took everything in me not to burst into tears. I know that asthma is an extremely common thing in children these days, but seeing what Laura's been through makes me really upset. Turns out it was triggered by an allergy that has never been an issue to this point because he's not been exposed to it. So unfortunately this coughing has been the sign of a strong and lingering asthma attack, which also explains the watering eyes. So anyway, we did a nebulizer treatment at the doctors office and Michael smiled through the majority of it. We all expected him to scream. Not my boy, he's so insanely sweet. He reacted so well to it that Dr. Shreve decided to send us home with a nebulizer of our own (it has a little fishy face mask with it) and an albuterol prescription.
Looks like we'll be doing that every four hours during the day until his cough is gone, and I've made an appointment with an allergist / asthma specialist for the end of next month for the both of us. (My allergies have gone berzerk. I walk by Chester and get hives these days!) So far it seems to be helping a lot. He's not coughing as often as he was and when he does cough it doesn't sound so labored.
That's what happened today. Hopefully these treatments will continue to work and I'll get some sleep at night again. That would be pretty cool!
Love you all,
Us
