Spencer Reid is not one who actively goes looking for trouble. Unfortunately, like a certain boy wizard, it ends up finding him inevitably. Such is the case when you track serial killers for a living. Things eventually go wrong.

Today's trouble had nothing to do with sociopaths, however. He decided to go for a walk in the woods outside of the barracks, bringing his journal with him and hoping that maybe he'd get a chance to sit somewhere quiet and write or sketch. After finding an area where the snow had melted a bit, he sat down on a stump and opened his journal. The silence of the woods was peaceful for a while, until he heard a rustling in the trees behind him. The hair on the back of Spencer's neck stood on end and he froze momentarily. As he slowly turned his head, his eyes widened.

Behind him was a wolf, the likes of which he had never seen before. It was as large a colt and snarled at him as it slowly approached. In an instant, Spencer was up and running blindly through the trees as the thing snapped at his heels. He remembered the general direction from which he had come so he headed back, winding through the trees until he could see the wall of the barracks ahead of him. A burst of pain shot through his left knee, then up his thigh. Spencer had been shot in his knee about a year ago, and while it hadn't given him pain in a while, the strain of running for his life had exacerbated the old injury.

As he neared the gate to the barracks, the pain in his leg finally caused his body to give way and he fell into the snow. He turned onto his back, his heart in his throat as the wolf stared down at him. All of the creature's hair stood on end and it's teeth were yellow as it stalked closer to him. Finally, Spencer had the sense to pull out his gun, which he aimed with a shaky hand. He hated to use it on animals almost as much as he hated to use it on humans, but this situation seemed to be fitting. Using his other hand, he pushed himself back through the snow, inching closer to the gate.

Then something unexpected happened. As he slowly passed through the gate, the wolf stopped moving towards him. It continued its snarling and growling, but something caused it to stop in its tracks. After Spencer was fully inside the barracks, it turned and ran back into the woods.

Its exit was so abrupt that Spencer could do nothing but lay there trembling for a moment. When he was able to move again, he tried to get back up on his feet, wincing at the searing pain in his leg.

"D-Doc..." he panted, before taking a deep breath and yelling as best he could, "Is there a doctor anywhere?"
