It had been nearly a month since Kes had woken up in the woods, which for an Ocampan was a considerable amount of time. Voyager's journey would have taken decades to make it back to the Alpha Quadrant - generations of her people could have flourished in that time. Kes herself knew she would have never seen Earth beyond the simulations on the Holodeck, and she had been at peace with that.
Now...well, they didn't know if they were on Earth or not. This place was as much a mystery to her as the Delta Quadrant had been to Voyager's crew.
She had remained in the Barracks so far, especially since hearing news of more monsters appearing in the woods. She was glad she had managed to avoid any during her arrival. Her abilities had returned to their dormant state and she knew she wouldn't have stood a chance against anything hostile out there.
Kes wasn't sure if she was glad or not that her powers seemed to have vanished as quickly as they had appeared. They had grown so fast that she had been overwhelmed by it, but at the same time, the new realms of possibility that had opened up to her had intrigued her. She hadn't had much of a chance to explore them. Now, though, at least she had somewhere new to explore...even if she wasn't going to venture outside the gates until she knew it was safe.
For now, she contented herself with sitting underneath the branches of the tree behind the library. In a strange way, it reminded her of home. Not Ocampa, but Voyager and its airponics bay, with her plants and flowers green and flourishing. She hoped someone was taking care of them now that she was gone.
