I'm Asking for YOUR Help

May 21, 2007 20:02

Those of you who know me well already know this. But for those of you who don't...

I'm a basketball coach and on August 2nd, 2005 one of my players died unexpectedly. This wasn't just any player. His name was Jon Davidson and I coached him for two seasons at Catholic Central. Before that I coached one of his older brothers and before that, his dad Bill was my first Athletic Director when I first started coaching. I've known this family for as long as I have been coaching and Jon's sudden death was devistating to all that knew him. Since his passing, his family has set up a memorial scholarship fund at Catholic Central in his name. This is something that is very near and dear to my heart. I can't bring Jon back but I will do whatever it takes to keep his memory and spirit alive.

On June 22nd his family is hosting a memorial open house and auction to raise money for the scholarship fund and I am asking for your help! There are two ways you can get involved. You can either come to the auction (it will be both silent and live) and bid on items or you can donate items to be auctioned off.

As taken from the official brochure:

The Spirit Lives On

Jonathan Robert Davidson
March 28, 1989 - August 2, 2005

In 2005, the Davidson family lost their youngest son to a rare, aggressive bacterial infection that struck without warning. Until hte time of his death, Jon lived an active and full live and he was surrounded by his parents Bill and Michele, and brothers Nick, Brett, Jake and Luke. Jon was a strong student, a gifted athlete, and a close friend to many, many Catholic Central students.

The Jon Davidson Memorial Open House and Auction

Silent and live auction to follow

Jon Davidson's memory lives on through the Catholic Central Jon Davidson Foundation, which funds a full tuition scholarship each year for a deserving Catholic Central Senior. The Jon Davidson Memorial Open House and Auction is a one-time event to fund this ongoing scholarship program.

The Catholic Central Jon Davidson Foundation is successful thanks to the support of the many people who share Jon's memory and passion for life. Each and every donation is greatly appreciated, and because the Foundation's operating costs are minimal, almost every penny raised goes directly towards funding programs to benefit Catholic Central students.

Please join the Catholic Central community as family and friends celebrate the life and legacy of Jon Davidson with the Jon Davidson Memorial Open House and Auction.

The Jon Davidson Memorial Open House and Auction is a one time only event. There is no charge to attend, however advance reservations are required to guarantee dinner and seating availability.

Support the Catholic Central Jon Davidson Foundation by joining us on June 22 to celebrate Jon's life and memories. You can also help by donating a gift for the evening's silent and live auctions.

What can you donate? Services, merchandise, sports or concert tickets, even homemade items. Some popular auction items include:

~Babysitting service
~Use of your cottage or vacation home
~Electronic items
~Sports memorabilia
~Dinners and group parties
~Catholic Central or college logo wear
~Unique, one of a kind experiences or sevices
~Custom-assembled gift baskets

There is no charge to attend the Jon Davidson Memorial Open House and Auction. Guests will have the opportunity to make a free will offering to help offset the costs.

So my friends, I ask that either by donating a gift or attending the open house/auction, (or you can simply send a check made payable to "Catholic Central Jon Davidson Foundation" to Carol Smith at 1454 Kings Crossing SE, Caledonia, MI 49316) that you will help me out in this. I am going to be busting my hump for the next month to get really cool things donated for the auction that you should come bid on! And dinner is being mostly catered by Outback Steakhouse so if nothing else you'll eat well!

Please understand that this isn't so much about Catholic Central as it is about keeping Jon's memory alive by helping a DESERVING family out with a year's TUITION. I can't even begin to tell you how loved Jon was and how many lives he's touched. His oldest brother Nick and I are also holding a basketball camp the week following the auction so there is an opportunity to get involved there too and more information on that will be coming shortly.

Being able to coach Jon was a privledge and a joy. Losing him has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. You're support will mean more to me than I can ever put into words.
