A facebook friend of mine (I'll call her Nancy)  recently posted that she'd heard some news that made her very said. She wasn't specific about what the news was, so I asked her about it in chat. I learned that  she has an elderly neighbor who is very ill and near death.

My doorbell rang last night at around 11:00. It was my next door neighbor Fred. He first informed me that he had accidentally cut his phone lines that day. Then he informed me that the gentleman companion of my across the street neighbor had been killed in a freak accident earlier that day. I have had a bad couple of days, so I was delighted to wake up this morning to the news that Abu al-Zarqawi had been killed.

I know that sounds cold, but it is hard to mourn the death of someone that goes around cutting off folks heads.

Don Knotts died this weekend. I have such a mix of emotions about this. Of course there is the pressure to write a haiku. And lots of pressure for Mr.Knotts...he was a great talent. My next door neighbor died last week. I feel a bit guilty that I wrote so much about such trivia as lottery tickets and japanese puzzles and didn't mention that.
