I'd heard rumours about this, but came across the link today.  This news was released in January of this year.

WINNIPEG - The province is spending more than $3.5 million to develop a birth centre in St. Vital.

The facility, which will feature four birthing rooms and an array of maternal health care services, is to open in mid-2011.

One of the local midwifery clinics sent out a survey about a birth centre in Vancouver. I think it's up on my facebook. So exciting!

Nice! I've always wanted to open a birth center, but having access to one as a midwife would be good too! Off to check your FB...
