I made the calls

I first called a midwife in Great Falls/Helena Montana.  She was very friendly and was driving through a snowstorm as she talked with me.  She only has 1 birth in January, 4 in Feburary, and 2 in March so she's not busy enough for me :-/    She was very nice though, and told me to call her back if I had no other options.

I next called a birth center in Wasilla Alaska.  They currently have three students already but the midwife I spoke to suggested that I call a midwife/birth center in Fairbanks.  Apparently they are short-handed right now and average 12-15 births a month so hopefully this will work out.  Their office isn't open today and the answering service wasn't terribly helpful so I'll call them back on Monday - there's no email address on their website!?

I also called a birth center in Washington and left a message, asking them to call me back about clinical placements.  They aren't open for another hour so I'll maybe call them back if they don't call me first.  Otherwise, add them to my Monday to-do list as well.  I think this place is a long shot since they likely have students from Seattle Midwifery School but I figured it can't hurt to ask, right?

So maybe Fairbanks will work out?  I made the mistake of checking the weather there today and it's a crisp -32 C.  But, I'd much rather be tucked inside a warm birth center catching slippery little babies than freezing my butt off outside pumping gas :-/
