far from comfortable

The past couple of days have been q.....oops, almost said the 'q' word.

Today I went to see a mom to do a baby weight check and some breastfeeding support/counselling.  I'm surprised to discover that breastfeeding stuff just doesn't come easily to me.  Besides my own personal breastfeeding experiences and my breastfeeding course at MCU, I haven't had much experience with breastfeeding problem-solving - there's a bit of a learning curve here for me.

I bought a cheap lump of beef and did some suturing practice with one of my supervising midwives today.  Injecting lidocaine and suturing flesh with vicryl and chromic (oh, how I hate working with chromic) fun fun fun.  The midwife was pleased with my technique and told me, "I have absolutely no concerns about your suturing.  The next time any suturing needs to be done, you'll do it."

I have been in contact with both the College and the health region here to get the ball rolling so that I can get a job this Spring.  The health region will wait until they know what my restrictions are before they make a decision to employ me with a restricted license or not.  Another IMPP student is coming here in a couple of weeks, and she is hoping to work here after she's done her clerkship as well.  It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I'm planning a trip home this weekend.  Jack has been doing some painting in the house to spruce things up before we list it.  Now that I've been away from home for so long and the house looks different, it doesn't feel like my permanent home anymore.  I feel like I'm in limbo, like I'm neither here nor there and it makes me feel sad and panicky sometimes.

I'm far from my comfort zone, so many things are changing so fast, I don't feel.....grounded.  Yep, it's time to go home for a while.

breastfeeding, moving, there's no place like home, future, suturing, clerkship
