a family day

Five years ago from now, I was in really active labour and my water would soon break.  In less than 2 hours it will be the time of Abby's birth.

She's been on my mind all day but the day has been too ...... normal, for me to really visit with Abby's memory.  Today is Jack's only day off that we would be at home and we were both a bit overwhelmed with all of the things that we needed and wanted to do around the house, while also remembering Abby's birthday.  Jack prepped the back step for painting, I folded laundry and did dishes, Jack helped me mix a big batch of buttercream frosting for the birthdays and grad cakes this month, Kim and Julia went to school, Charlotte whined about having to take a nap.  A normal day, but it felt like it shouldn't be.

A co-worker of mine had asked me if I'd like to bring the girls out to her farm after school today to ride one of her horses.  I knew they would love it so we did.  All three of the girls rode a beautiful horse, Jack and the girls played with the dogs and cats, and I took pictures, as always.

A beautiful palomino

Kim was really happy to be riding again

We made friends with all the horses, and fed them chopped apples

Julia was so excited to ride a horse, and Paint horses are her favorite!

The dogs and cats got attention too

Even Charlotte went riding all by herself!  She was a little afraid but was determined to ride by herself, and she was so proud :-)

LOL - horse kisses....bleh.

Singing Happy Birthday to Abby.  Kim was at work but we saved her some cake.

Five candles.  FIVE.  It doesn't seem possible.

For Abby's cake this year we made Dina's chocolate cake - so delicious.  I didn't cry all day until I cut into her cake and then all of a sudden I felt her absence so deeply.  Charlotte asked why I was crying and Jack told her, "Because mommy wishes Abby was here to eat her own cake."  Yep, I really really do.

family fun, abby, birthday cakes, horses, pictures, abby's birthday
