Old shames

We've all made one at some point, something way back then that we thought was the best thing ever at the time. Then we grow up, look at it again, and wonder if we were high back in that day.

I have a couple of those. There's my first creation in MUGEN, a rather unrealistic and unbalanced adaptation of that BBH character. I've become so much better since then, but she remains popular in spite of my later works. Meh.

Before that however, there was MegaZeux. Bit of backstory first: Over a decade ago, I discovered a little ANSI-based GCS called ZZT. I can play and make little games with it, so needless to say I loved it. And this love carried over to MegaZeux (a creation of a prominent ZZTer).

Eventually around the year 2000, I created and released my own little game in MZX (I also created even littler games in ZZT, but none of those were released). It was called Magician's Adventure, and it had so much stupid plot and dialogue that I apparently loved a decade ago. But the gameplay was good at least (or so I'm told, I can't bring myself to play it today to check for myself). Some time after that, I found MUGEN and forgot about MZX. It'd be only a few years ago that I rediscovered MZX (but I couldn't muster the courage to replay or even download my old game), but it was only a few months ago that I created a new game series on it: J.G.'s Neatsome Magical Adventures. Basically, I took the main character of my old game and put her in a new one that didn't have the same nauseating plot and dialogue and stuff. Two episodes are done so far, and I'm planning a third; but the catch is that I really must replay my very first MZX game before I continue because it's the focus of the third episode.

So yeah, what was I thinking back then? Especially with all those little fanfic stories? Good thing those were only confined to little message boards and never uploaded anywhere ever.....
