Can you sing with all the voices in the mountain?

I have a big case of White Girl Guilt right now.

My current training assignment is Pocahontas, and I just finished captioning "Colors of the Wind." If you've forgotten the crappy lyrics (for which Stephen Schwartz should not have won an Oscar), check out these two verses ( Read more... )

ITA. And I hope Sheryl doesn't get a lot of crap from the fans, though lord knows how many lame "Lesbians in the WNBA? No way!" jokes will be told in the next few days.

I completely blame you for the fact that I've had that wretched song running through my head for a half hour, and will no doubt go to sleep with it pounding in my brain. Damn you!

(See - I am out here reading and lurking and humming...)

And way to go, Sheryl Swoopes!

Ha! I made you delurk! ;)

If it helps, I've had various Pocahontas songs stuck in my head all week. The worst is "The Virginia Company": "In 1607, we sailed the open sea..."

Seriously though, I don't remember "Colors of the Wind" being such an annoying song. Did Vanessa Williams' voice cover the bad lyrics that well?

After I stopped laughing and focused on the pretty pictures, I felt like replenishing the earth. Maybe buy farmland and grow crops for the less-fortunate. Or join Greenpeace and sit on oil barrels in the ocean, or drag my empty soda cans home instead of throwing them away at work. Anything to make life better for those cute little animated bear cubs!

At least that makes some kind of sense for a human like yourself. I went through a weird phase where I brushed my hair with a fork after copious amounts of The Little Mermaid.

Hee! Did you brush while wearing a shell bikini top? (Please say yes!)

I'm still a little haunted by Stark's comment about the raccoon threesome. And, now I need to find some brain bleach.

I had to sing that song in the Fairfax Choral Society. Hate. Hate.

Didn't Swoopes say some crap about not being born that way or did I misread? (I've been in class since 11 and had one performance and one presentation and now I'm about to go to more classes from 7:30 to 10. I'm really fucking out of it today.)

Really, aren't the lyrics to that song just the biggest load of crap ever? It's like he tried to write riddles or something.

Swoopes said that she doesn't think she was born gay, but thinks that school of thought is valid.

I know all about being out of it. I was alert until just after lunch; it was all downhill from there ;)

Dude. There's a conspiracy brewing! I linked to an article reporting the news in my LJ this afternoon, and it contained this quote from Swoopes: "Do I think I was born this way? No. And that's probably confusing to some, because I know a lot of people believe that you are." And I was going to rant about it, but I decided to wait for clarification. Except now when I click on that link, the article is still there but that quote is gone, like it never happened. It's totally on you now, is that quote in the ESPN magazine?

Whoa, it's gone?! I first saw it on the Yahoo main page, though there's a link to it in my NBA daily email. I'll post it early tomorrow morning because my brain is shot right now :)

BTW, I saw that quote in the Yahoo piece, though it's not in the ESPN.com article I found. I know this sounds like wanking, but I think she believes most gay people are born gay, though not her.

Hee! Feel free to wank as much as you'd like. I read the piece at work, and so I wasn't paying much attention, but Stark noticed that much more of the article disappeared than I originally thought. There were also some sections in which Swoopes criticized the double standard that makes sexual orientation an issue in women's sports, but not with men. Something like that anyway, my memory is hazy. So I think I misjudged Swoopes, she obviously kicks ass, and now The Man is trying keep her down!

It's a conspiracy!! ::shakes fist towards the heavens:: (Or possibly an overzealous publicist)

Okay, I found the AP one. It's a bit different, but still well done. I wish someone has asked how long she'd considered/planned to publically come out, because she's high-profile and an active player. They do talk about how smaller towns might react, as well as her mom.

BTW, I meant to friend you a couple weeks ago & forgot. I blame it on Pocahontas. Anyway, I've added you :)
