Summary: Tatsumi Souichi and Morinaga Tesuhiro continue in the same rocky relationship as ever. But when things take a sudden twist, and their places are switched, how will they react?
Chapter 2
In the meantime, Souichi Tatsumi was trying to figure out what had happened. When the earthquake was over and they had stopped at the station the first thing he noticed as he got out of the train was strands of long silver hair passing his vision as himself walked out in front of him. In that moment, he looked down at himself and the legs of someone that wasn’t him. He continued to walk with the very momentum that he started with, his eyes scanning from a higher point then before. He stopped when his other self stopped. Then his mind shut down. “What was he looking at?” he thought as his eyes started to focus in the familiar scene. How did he get to the laboratory?... Cold ice water dropped down his back and he jumped out of the chair he was sitting on. The chair fell and hit the floor with a loud bang. He misjudged the distance he had jumped and he hit a shelf. Beakers clattered and he turned to make sure nothing was broken. “What the fuck!?” he shouted. “What was that for?!” he called out to the person responsible for his current demise.
“Senpai, is that you?” asked Morinaga. “Of course it’s me!” Senpai shouted in Morinaga’s body. Then he stopped and looked back at him. Bewildered, he turned around and looked at his reflection reflected on the glass shelf he had almost toppled over. “Morinaga?” his Senpai asked in a tone Morinaga had come to recognize all too well in the past few years. “Y..yes?” he asked in a trembling voice. It was strange to watch his own image with Senpai’s usual facial expressions but it was to some level a relief to see him snapped out of the previous frozen one. “What are you doing in my body?” a low level deathly voice asked.
“Y..your body?.. N..no..nothing Senpai. Surely you understand I…” a bewildered Morinaga in his Senpai’s body tried explaining but was suddenly cut short by his Senpai’s voice. “Give it back” said Senpai, a dark shadow hiding the look in his eyes. Nervously, Morinaga swallowed. “Senpai, you know I would…” he tried explaining. “ I said, give it back” Tatsumi said again. This time, his eyes were clearly visible and the violent intent could not be ignored.
“Senpai, please listen…” but Morinaga did not get a chance to finish his thought. “Give it back!” his Senpai shouted as he lunged for him. Morinaga managed to dodge, and ran to the other side of the table. Somehow, he knew if his Senpai got his hands on him in his current body things could be bad for him. “I’m trying to tell you, I can’t!” he shouted back as Tatsumi continued trying to catch him. “Eeh!? What are you trying to say?!” Tatsumi asked back too angry to listen. That was his body Morinaga was in and he would not stop until he got it back. “I don’t know how to do that!” Morinaga told him as he dodged under the table. “Of course you do! Now give it here!” Tatsumi shouted as he jumped over the table easily with his new found agility.
“Gyahh!” Morinaga shouted as he was cornered. “Senpai! No!” he shouted as he saw his Senpai reached for him with his usual violence. Under normal circumstances, Tatsumi’s violent tactics would have done no more than bruise him. However, in Morinaga’s body Senpai did not realize the damage he could do. Morinaga did his best to dodge Senpai’s fist at such close range, but it was not enough. Tatsumi’s fist from Morinaga’s body connected with his shoulder and drove him into one of the glass shelves behind him. His body impacted with the shelf and gratefully the glass only fragmented. Unfortunately, the shock was too much for his current body and he cried out in pain.
The pain was almost unbearable, but he knew the situation was far from over. As he slid to the ground, he did his best to raise his head to look at Senpai. What he saw made his heart clench in pain. Senpai looked scared and panicked. He wanted to reach out and tell him it was ok but he could not really move his shoulder at the moment.
“Mo…Morinaga?” asked the trembling voice of his Senpai. “Are… are you ok?” he asked in a small voice. “Not really. But if you could help me out, I would appreciate it” Morinaga replied with a shaky laugh from where he was sitting on the ground. “I’m sorry, I’m really…” Senpai started to apologize. “It’s ok Senpai. I understand” Morinaga interrupted him. “What can I do?” Tatsumi asked. Morinaga made an attempt to stand up but realized right away he could not manage it. He then looked back at his Senpai and sighed. “Could you help me get out of the floor and maybe into a chair? Please…” he asked gingerly. “Of…of course” Tatsumi replied flustered. He reached out to grab Morinaga’s arms but winced when Morinaga hissed in pain. Seeing no way out, Tatsumi swooped down to pick him up. He was surprised when he managed to pick him up almost effortlessly. Morinaga too was surprised by the sudden position he found himself in. He was not used to being so helpless and he felt his face blush.
“God, you’re heavy” Tatsumi bluffed. Morinaga was surprised by the comment. “Don’t you mean you’re heavy?” he retorted. Senpai looked down with his green eyes and Morinaga’s heart skipped a beat. “I guess you’re right” said Tatsumi, as he used his foot to straighten up the previously misplaced chair and sat Morinaga upon it. Their eyes met for a split second as he straightened up. Tatsumi found it weird to be looking down at his own face yet he could immediately recognize Morinaga’s expression in his own amber eyes. The way they rounded up to look at him almost innocently. “Tsk” Tatsumi muttered and moved away. “Senpai?” Morinaga called after him.
As Tatsumi disappeared from Morinaga’s field of vision, Morinaga started to ponder the situation they found themselves in. It seemed too much of a coincidence, that the moment they started talking about living in each other’s shoes their positions had been switched so abruptly. But he didn’t see how that knowledge could help them. He could not imagine someone being behind this, except maybe a superior power or fate. Or from a scientific point of view, was there a possibility that human minds were more closely linked then they realized? The brain was full of electric waves, just like the waves of sound and the waves of cell phones… He was distracted from this train of thought as he felt something cold press against his hurt shoulder.
“Here, hopefully it will ease the pain. That’s all we have for now” said Tatsumi as he pressed a bag with ice against Morinaga. “Thanks…” he replied, a little surprised by his Senpai’s thoughtfulness. “So now what?” asked Tatsumi with his usual crossed arms position and serious expression. Morinaga could not help but notice how those expressions of Senpai made his body look all the more desirable. Or maybe, like Senpai often said, it was only his mind going into rut that made him think this way.
“I’m not sure. Do you have any ideas?” Morinaga asked his Senpai. “Am I dreaming?” asked Tatsumi almost to himself. “Ahem” coughed Morinaga to get his Senpai’s attention. When Tatsumi turned to looked at him he continued. “I considered that possibility until this happened” and he nodded pointedly toward his shoulder. “I mean, doesn’t your hand hurt? Even just a little bit?” he asked Tatsumi. When Morinaga mentioned that, Tatsumi looked down at his hand and flexed it. It did hurt slightly, but not enough to take notice. He went ahead and tried pinching his current body and hissed when he felt pain shoot through. “I think we should get back on that train and stay there until we return to normal” said Tatsumi mulling over the idea on his head. “I can’t think of any other place to start” he finished. Morinaga nodded. “Alright, seems like a good place to start” he agreed.
