Among Others by Jo Walton

So many thoughts about Jo Walton's 'Among Others'. Loved it. It spoke so much to me and my own adolescence. We are contemporaries, born in the same year, but at opposite ends of the earth. What timing, I just read it for a third time yesterday. It really is a remarkable book. The first time through I was a bit confused about what happened with the twin and the fairies. The second time I was trying to remember if I'd read what she'd read and thought 'goodness, not since I was actually 15!' This time, though, it all came together and I think I finally read the book she wrote, if you know what I mean ( ... )

My reading of Mor and Wim is a perfect example of the reader bring their own life to the text! I was thinking not of the Ruthie incident, but of the way he keeps trying to be his saviour and rescuer, which she doesn't want at all.

Tell me, did you wonder whether the magic and fairies were 'real' when reading the first time? I wondered if they were a story she told herself to make sense of her life, until Wim saw them.

Also, what did you make of the scene where Daniel gets into bed with her?
