MEDIAWEST CON UPDATE
Posted 6 years ago
Okay, so, you know that con in Lansing MI that's been wanting new people and furries that's been run the same since its inception in 1981? Yeah, that one.
May 22-25, 2015 - Lansing MI
ANYWAY. Their registration goes up by $10.00 starting January 1, 2015 to $55 for the weekend. However, At the same time, they will also introduce single day memberships. So if you're a Michigan local and you want to check out a bunch of furries trying to break ground at a sci fi con, there ya go.
However, this con is run a little differently, as the membership page illustrates.
To wit:
"All Attending memberships postmarked after Dec. 31, 2014 are $55 ($60 outside the US for those who want PRs mailed), until either Attending membership limits of 700 is reached or May 1, 2015, whichever comes first. NO MEMBERSHIPS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR. Memberships are NOT transferable.
Memberships are subject to acceptance.
Single Day Memberships will be available in advance beginning January 1, 2015. You must specify the day for the membership to be valid. Single day memberships are $30 for US residents, $35 outside the US."
As for my role, I've decided that since this is a much lower paced con, I'm going to do something I NEVER do: Man a dealer's table. If I get the hang of it and I like what I do, I may graduate to bigger cons. But for now, I'm going to be selling prints, and taking commissions and fun stuff like that.
I also intend to run panels, enter my fursuit in the Masquerade, host a Pony party with
kinkyturtle, and put artsy stuff in the art show.
For anyone wanting to go, by all means, it's not a bad little con. It's an older crowd, and their interests lie rooted mainly in sci-fi and fantasy. A lot of what they offer and show in their dealers room are a fun little history lesson and delve into various shows and movies and such, but they're plenty of room for newer faces of fandom like MLP and furry. They're curious about us, and want to share their con space with us, but checking out their panels and seeing the art and works they put out is a learning experience on our parts too. In addition, there are lots of writing and art workshops, as well as a healthy gaming room for stuff like Fluxx and Cards Against Humanity.
In short? It's a chance for everyone involved to try something new and have a good time while they're at it. :)
IF YOU CAN'T GO: You can still help! Spread the word! Post a link to this journal in YOUR FA blog. Even if you can't personally attend, someone in your circles might be interested, and it never hurts to get word out.
