Geeze, this term has me running so hard. Stupidly so.
Let's see...I recently installed CA Firewall/Anti-Virus/Anti-Spam on the system as a free part of my internet service, and it was fine until a couple of weeks ago, at which point the computer would instantly reboot if I tried to access my digital camera. I called/chatted for a whole day, but I got no resolution from CA. I finally contacted Time Warner (internet provider), and they fixed it quickly. Until today, when it started all over again, despite the fix. I contacted Time Warner again, but they didn't know anything else to try, so now I'm back to CA and waiting for them to contact me about my particular problem. Much more of this problem and I'll have to uninstall my free internet protection and start paying for it again from a more reliable company. It's so bad right now that I can't put the camera on the printer dock, or the computer will recognize the camera is there and will reboot instantly.
Yesterday, we went to the Renaissance Festival, which was quite fun. Not sure that's what my parents wanted us to do with the anniversary money gift, but it was a good family outing. I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't what I got. I wished we had lots more money, but we liked the chance to wander aimlessly and look at some pretty cool stuff. I also picked out my "Got Spam?" t-shirt because it was interesting, not thinking about the audience that would go to the RenFest, so we were occasionally treated to renditions of Monty Python's "Spam Song." They, of course, had no idea of my lovely wife's long-term nickname.
This term is over on Thursday. Well, Wednesday for two classes and Thursday for the third. Maybe Monday for my independent study, though I suspect it may not happen (I worry the student is about to spin out, academically, in this class). This break is good for my sanity, but it's a terrible blow for finances, as I'll be off (unpaid) for two weeks after that. Gotta hit the temp companies and see what I can arrange, though I'm suspecting not much/nothing.
No extra class being offered next term, as of yet, either. That looks even more grim, financially.
I picked up a couple of t-shirts from one of the malls the other day. One was the classic Silver Surfer t-shirt, and the other has Homer Simpson wearing boxing gloves, with the words "Heavy Weight" under it. $2.44 each. While they're not my favorite new shirts, I like 'em plenty well for the price.
In books, I've really been enjoying Brian Sack's In the Event of My Untimely Demise, a book of life lessons that are both amusing and actually insightful. Some of his comments are so funny that I wish I'd had them, things like how parents want to make their children happy like Bono wants to be Jesus. He talks about sex ed and fighting and not believing everything your elders teach you (especially if they're film school teachers). Great advice, really, written supposedly for his son. I'd recommend it.
I'm almost certain, and not really sure why I'm not certain yet, that I'm finally giving up on watching "Heroes." I've given two seasons to it, and I'm still bored most of the time with it. Just the idea of getting into the new season makes me want to watch anything else, even though I gave the first few minutes a shot, so it's about time to retire it.
I'm sure there's plenty more for me to tell, but I can't think of what it is right now. I'll try to get back here, but if it's not today, it probably won't be until Thursday.
Oh, lest I forget to ask, how are you?
