Goofy confession

Hello, my name is barb and I have a confession to make.

I'm in love...

with ...

my Roku3 box.

Seriously. I bought it a few months ago on a whim. I mean, my blu-ray player can play Netflix and Hulu... I really didn't NEED to get this. But the weird selling point for me was the fact that I could plug in some headphones into the Roku remote and just listen in them. So no longer do I annoy (or I perceived to annoy) my roommate by watching anime or movies in my room. I walk around with the remote and even at a distance (for instance I'm downstairs and the tv is upstairs) I can pause and play at will.

I can add channels to it, HuluPlus, Amazon Prime and Netflix are there by default (and you can remove those if you want), but you can add others like Crunchyroll. You can add games like Angry Birds... I don't like playing that on Roku much though. There are plenty of channels you can download and try.

The negatives are... 1) there is no YouTube channel (not that it bothers me much); 2) the batteries on the remote die fairly quickly if you use the headphones in the remote all the time. You can tell when it goes out because suddenly, there is no sound in the headphones and the controls don't want to work; 3) there is no power off button anywhere on the device. It will go to a screensaver. Sometimes it acts wonky because of that, but if you unplug the device and plug it again it will resolve those issues.

I really didn't think I would use this that much but I use it almost daily. I've been catching plenty of anime I had never seen (Code Breaker, Psycho-Pass), some of the current releases that aren't on Crunchyroll like Karneval or Red Data Girl. Netflix runs smoother on this than it did on my Samsung Blu-Ray player. Actually everything streams really smoothly on the device. And it is so cute and small, it's footprint is so tiny you don't have to worry about finding shelf space for it at all.

So there you have it. One more gadget to occupy my mind. (~__^)
