Perspective

As I walked down to my car this evening on my way out of work, in the half-light and the drizzle, I looked out across Bolton. In the misty light of the streetlamps (still mostly orange), the darkening sky looked purple and the buildings were hazed and indistinct. A few pricks of light - mostly streetlamps, some lit windows - stood out like stars. And I stopped. Only for a moment, because it was cold and wet and dark (and it had been a long day and I wanted to go home), but -

It was one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen.

Yes, it was Bolton in the drizzle. But it was beautiful. It was otherworldly. It wouldn't have looked out of place as an establishing shot of another world in a science fiction movie.

I almost took a photo, and a part of me wishes that I had - but I know that the camera in my phone wouldn't've done it justice. So I'll have to remember it. Fondly.

And I'll have to try to look for those moments where the mundane transcends into something spectacular more often.
